When coming from the Quad Cities (IA/IL), the last thing that comes to mind is a major hip-hop scene .Even further from that is expecting to hear industry quality music with punch lines and lyricism equal to that of an industry artist coming from Quad City native rapper Young X (Born Xavier Jamayel Berry). Raised in the Quad Cities (Iowa/Illinois), Young X moved to Orlando, Fl, where he formed MidSouth Muzik with producer A.Gee Thompson, and fellow artist Devvon Terrell
In 2010 Young X signed a management deal with Ryan “The R” Matthews, and put out 2 mixtapes with MidSouth Muzik co-owner Devvon Terrell. The second of the two releases “Download or Die” was ranked “Top 8 Mixtapes of the Day” on www.datpiff.com, and helped the two gain notoriety. You can find Young X all over the internet from his “Spotlight Artist Feature” on 24hourhiphop.com as their 1st inaugural artist, to blog sites and industry hip hop sites like Greenhitz.com and the Core DJs Mixshow Hotlist.
With nearly 100k digital downloads off of 3 mixtapes and 2 single releases which to date have over 250k digital downloads on various sites, this Midwest native is preparing to show you why he is aiming to sketch his name and hometown on the Hip Hop map
The MidSouth President is currently working on his debut EP/Mixtape “Fistful of Dollas”, while trying to land MidSouth Muzik a distribution/production deal. Between the rest of the team and himself, almost all of the music, from start to finish, is done in house, with mixing and mastering credits on DTP/Def Jam and Cash Money records as well. With only being in the music industry for a little over a year now, Young X & MidSouth Muzik look to make their brand a familiar household name in the music community.
