Lyrics

(c) 3/27/2009 No Creek Music (ASCAP)/Ray Withrow Was the meanest on the mountain Shabby, old, & gray He’d get drunk, then, he’d cuss With nothing good to say Everybody told the preacher - You’re just wasting time! Even “the good book” tells us don’t cast yur pearls ‘fore swine! The preacher said, “Now listen! I’ve got a soul to save!” My ‘work’ for the Lord ain’t over Til dirt covers up my grave I ain’t like you ‘others’ I don’t want him to go to hell If you won’t go, then, I will I figured I may as well! (Spoken) The hillbilly met the preacher With his shotgun in his hand “Ya better git on outta here!” The preacher said, “I understand!” I just came to invite you To the ONLY church in town You can come just as you are Just leave your shotgun, And come on down. Then, the preacher left because He’d said what he he came to say Everyone was surprised To see the hillbilly the next day He came to church in his over-alls Said, “I’ll get down on my knees!” “I want to know this guy called Jesus!” “Would it help if I asked - please? God sure done a miracle!! Everyone would say He is now a deacon at the church I thought I’d NEVER see the day But God can save anyone He sets his mind to do The preacher said, “I told ya so !” Hillbillies can be, too!
