Description
This song was inspired by a dream I had, where I was walking along the Atlantic City Beach and encountered Fear, who was an old man mumbling to himself in some tattered clothes on a jetty. This song tells the story contained within that dream.
Lyrics
I saw Old Man Fear sitting on a jetty by the sea. Tattered waist-coat, long white hair that was lifted into the breeze. Rocking himself like a child and mumbling softly. As I approached he did not stir but moved to speak. And he said, "No, No. No, it is not my time to go. I must undo the wrongs I've done. The hopes I've thieved from everyone." I took one more step, towards the slippery rock. Reached out my hand towards his, but he recoiled in distrust. The sky was a Monet painting of violet and grey. About to burst with the rain it was holding that day. And he said, "No, No. I am not prepared to go. I must undo the wrongs I've done. The hopes I've thieved from everyone, from everyone." Suddenly I was struck with a vein of grit. I became so angry I could almost spit. Here's the man all my life who had kept me bound, and even now I could feel him try to pull me down. But I resist back away and then I say... "No, No. No. It is now my time to go. I have dreams I've left ashore. And days of my own to answer for." I saw Old Man Fear disappear before my eyes. And then I opened them and saw that it was time to rise from bed.
