With only 4 songs on his debut EP, 500, we are given a glimpse into sexual voyeurism, bad friendships, the hope of new love, and the heartbreak of love lost; themes that foreshadow the work to come. The title of this EP refers to the lifespan of the phoenix. In popular mythology, on its 500th year, the phoenix would kill itself to rise again a new version to live for another 500 years. This first chapter is the introduction of what's to come - a deeper look into how romance can lead to both our death and our rebirth.
By embodying the aesthetic of the phoenix and its spirit of rebirth, VNIX sends a powerful message to his listeners that nothing has the power to destroy you when you hold the power to transform. He represents a new era of artists who aim to inspire not only through music but through leadership and activism. He challenges the limitations put on male pop musicians in the industry by continuing to create visual and conceptual art, music, and fashion without inhibitions.
"In order to become bigger than we are, we must be willing to sacrifice who we were. Sometimes it takes great tragedy to discover how to transcend ourselves. The message of the phoenix is that every death brings new life. We must learn to let go of the parts of ourselves that hold us back, hurt us, or keep us from evolving and reaching our highest potential. These tiny deaths leave us the space for stronger parts of ourselves to be born and nurtured, just like a phoenix, always improving."
On August 21 2015, VNIX performed at World Café Lives' Beta Hi-Fi Emerging Music Festival 2015 after being selected as an emerging artist and premiered his first music video for the single “Creep” on October 1st 2015.
