Alanna Clarke is 19 years old and music is her life.
She grew up in a house near Cochrane, Alberta that looks out on the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. This is where Alanna learned to sing, write songs, play guitar and piano. Alanna’s music comes from real experiences in her life and that’s why she’s able to connect with her listeners..
This summer, her song ‘Fine Line’ will be featured on Degrassi’s new movie ‘Degrassi Goes Manhattan’, debuting July 16 here and in the U.S.! -
“A brilliant writer who sings realtime hooks.” - Brian Farrell, vocal/performance coach and mentor.
Alanna learned her love of the stage when she was 10 years old and since then has devoted all of her energy to pursuing music. She left public schooling when she was 15 to pursue music full-time, and completed her high-school diploma over the internet.
Over the past three years Alanna has played over 250 shows across Canada. As a youth in Calgary, in 2007 she won the city of Calgary’s youth band competition (Toast n’ Jam), and in 2008 she won the Don Weldon Award for Most Promising Performer at the Calgary Stampede Talent Search. Alanna is thrilled to be a member of U22, an organization that provides performance opportunities for young talent. U22 included Alanna in a CBC special on talented youth in Alberta, the Tongue on the Post Festival, and this summer, she’ll be playing at the Canmore Folk Music Festival and the Edmonton Folk Music Festival!
“Blessed with the voice of an angel and the determination of a tiger, this smart, beautiful and talented songstress is poised to enjoy a long and illustrious career in music.” - Rhea March, U22 Music Productions
Most recently, Alanna has been traveling to schools across Alberta and doing songwriting workshops with the students! “One of my favourite parts of my career is inspiring other people to get involved in music,”Alanna says of visiting the schools.
"Alanna's engaging style and personal stories gave her an immediate connection with the girls who are living her experiences themselves." - Susan Farrell, principal of Calgary Girl's School. Growing up, Alanna loved the music of Linda Ronstadt, Christina Aguilera, Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell and Alannah Myles.
It must have been fate that Alanna’s cousin played a song of hers at a Songwriters Association of Canada event in Ottawa for a panel that included Christopher Ward, who developed Alannah Myles' career and wrote so many of her songs, including Black Velvet, a favourite song of Alanna’s to sing at gigs. Afterwards, he asked her cousin if they could meet, and a couple of months later Alanna was in his studio playing songs on the guitar that he wrote Black Velvet on. Now, along with super talented writer and producer Luke McMaster, who’s written for Rihanna, Nick Lachey and Kalen Porter, they’ve co-written many songs together and completed Alanna’s new six song EP 'Wild Rose available on itunes!
"Alanna has a voice that is a natural gift. But it’s the artist behind that voice that excites me. She writes with a depth and passion that reveal wisdom and an unmistakable style. You’ll be hearing this voice for a long time to come." - Christopher Ward
