Portland-based band buttonjaw is comprised of Scott Macdonald (vocals, guitar, keys), Jake Smith (guitar), Sam Adams (bass, vocals) and Dan Rosen (drums). The band was formed in May of 2010 when Scott went looking for musicians to help record a CD of original tunes that would benefit victims of human trafficking. Scott's journey began earlier in another part of the world - West Africa. In 2009, Scott was invited to participate in a project that would investigate and document cases of child trafficking in a remote area of Ghana, West Africa. During his 3 weeks in Ghana, the team were fortunate to rescue 7 children from debt bondage and safely secure shelter for them in Kete Krachi and Tema. You can read more about the project from team member and student journalist Amy Dempsey in her blog, 'Out of Nets.' After Scott returned from West Africa, he set out to bring awareness to this issue in his hometown of Portland, OR. But there was something else that needed to be done. As a musician and songwriter, Scott knew that in order to broadcast this issue to a greater audience he needed to use the medium of music to do it. It was then when he began crafting the songs that would later find their way onto this record. The band will be donating sales from their first 1,000 CDs and digital downloads to help buiild a safe house for children rescued from trafficking in Ghana, West Africa. We hope you enjoy the music and will partner with us to help bring an end to modern-day slavery in our lifetime. Please check out our website for more information.
