Life, Love, & Music… is what smooth crooner/ R&B vocalist Andrew Djru Jackson has to offer the music world in his upcoming album of the same name. Djru’s music is a complete turnaround from the sex, lies, and explicit video footage that most of today’s music boasts of. Though sex does sell, Life, Love, & Music endures. It endures the fads, the bling, and all of the other reverberations that are full of superficial sparkle. His music is truly golden, because the man behind the music has molded it into a timeless jewel. For Djru, Love, Life, & Music came as naturally to him as does breathing the air that sustains him. His musical skills descend from a past of childhood memories in which he participated in many family concerts. Nearly everyone would sing and put on a grand performance while someone recorded every movement and every not on video. When he was approximately seven years old, an aunt suggested that Djru take classical piano lessons in order that he might develop a deeper understanding of musical sounds and chords. The classical training, family concerts, and general enthusiasm for soulful music all contributed to Djru’s distinct sound. In addition to being a tremendously talented singer, songwriter, and poet, Djru is an accomplished actor. As a college senior, he embraced the lead role in an LSU campus production of Violet. Shortly after moving to Houston, TX, in 2005; Jackson landed several roles at the famous Ensemble Theater. He enjoyed roles in (Sparkle, Christmas Comes Uptown, Get Ready, The Twelve Ways of Christmas, Fences, and A Raisin in the Sun) to name a few. His travels have taken him to West Port, New York where he performed at The Depot Theater in the play Show Boat. Djru admits that he constantly relies on his acting skills to enhance and broaden his performance when singing for his audience. He jumps into character and attempts to draw viewers and listeners into his world helping them to escape into a dimension filled with positive vibes, inspiration, and pure soul. He has used those same skills to precede performances by Cupid, Mary J. Blige, Musiq Soulchild, Lil Wayne and various local talents. In 2004&2005, (Seasons 4&5) Djru was a contestant on American Idol in Hollywood, California. He shared the same audition stage with other contestants such as Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice and Constantine. Djru’s music compiles the best flavors from the past and present to form a unique blend of sultry vocals and breezy tracks. One can sense the individual influences of Nat King Cole, Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross, and Stevie Wonder. Yet, somehow the amalgam of it all comes off as strangely unique while maintaining a vague familiarity. Though Djru wishes to emulate no one, He does admire the individuals who have gone before him to have successful careers. He constantly studies people like Jamie Foxx, Kanye West, Babyface, and other local artists because their successes open more doors for him as well as others. Djru refers to Life, Love, & Music as the “three-headed monster” because it relates to people on multiple levels. Everyone at some point or another comes to important milestones in life. Whatever stage of life a person is in, Djru’s music reaches out and accompanies that person through the journey.
