My name is Marquis Taylor. I am 21 years old and I’ve been rapping for nine years. My lyrics contain no profanity. I am not against collaborating with artists that use profanity. However, I still uphold my standards as a clean artist. Rap is a way I can express myself in a positive way so I can expand my audience of all ages to share how I feel with the world.   Background I won a trophy for the 2011 Blaze the Stage hip hop competition in New York on August 13th. I also performed in front of 800 people at one of the most prestigious clubs in Detroit called the Shadow Bar. I have been in several radio commercials promoting the events I was a special guest for. Rapping is just one aspect of my talents. I’ve hosted parties at some of Detroit’s most popular venues including Lucky’s Bar and Grill, Club Splash and Club Status. I’ve also hosted open mic showcases for local talent every other Friday at a bar called The Bullfrog. I was featured on Detroit’s local radio station for a segment of the show called Unsigned Hype on FM98 WJLB every Saturday. Artist Statement I’m one of Blaze the Stage hip hop winners for 2011. I feel that I’m not a winner until I’m in a position to help another hungry artist like myself. I never had a manager or any financial support to help me out with anything. I am currently employed at a local industrial plant investing all of my income into my dream. It is really hard for me being so young and not having any financial help, but I will not stop. So I’m asking you to give me a chance to show the world that no matter how many times you are turned away, never stop chasing your dream.
