Jami Rae, a Pop and R&B singer-songwriter from Kansas City, Missouri, is a unique talent. With a passion for writing and a heart for everything she does, Jami Rae’s music speaks for itself. This up and coming artist writes about things that people can relate to. With a rough, soulful voice, she pulls your ear toward the melody. Jami Rae is who she is…a real, talented woman. Never trying to force the issue, never trying to be something she’s not. She is, by nature, an artist. As a high school student, Jami Rae was in choir, musicals and helped the underclassmen prepare for district and state competitions. She played a supporting role in the high school production, “Into the Woods”, and also had the honor of singing the national anthem at one of the pep assemblies. She got the opportunity to sing at many events including the Royals Stadium Club and after graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1999, she performed with the honors choir at Carnegie Hall, in New York. This is one of the greatest performances Jami Rae has ever experienced. Although choral music was never her desire, she enjoyed the things she learned and always thought she would do something in music one day. Although life has pointed her in so many directions, somehow her focus always shifts back to music and writing. “The one thing I have learned that I can pass along is that fear is a powerful thing”, Jami Rae says. “I’ve been told that if you believe in something, if you believe in yourself, people will believe, too. You can’t be scared whether people will like it or not. Do you like it? Then go with it!” With her down-to-earth attitude, Jami Rae is bound to have a bright future ahead of her. Toward the end of 2006, Jami Rae’s then boyfriend, Heath J. Gentry, CEO of Autumn Wind Records, gave her the first track she would ever create a real song to. It was just suppose to be for fun, but with it she wrote her first song titled, “You Don’t Know”. It started slowly. She wrote a couple more songs in the months that followed, (“Lies That Bind Me” and “For My Brother”), but then it began pouring out of her faster than she could put it on paper. It all came back, that natural love and desire for sharing her lyrics. In the last two and a half years, Jami Rae has focused on her writing and with over fifty songs written, she is always looking for creative ways to share her feelings and to write songs that inspire people and spark their emotions. After so many years of not believing, you would think that beginning again would be discouraging, and at times it is. But this phenomenal woman has decided to use the past and the struggles she has been through to push her harder and farther than she thought she could ever go. She recently performed her original music live in Kansas City, Missouri, at the Gem Theatre and has done a few other venues, such as the Record Bar and Body Works Phase II, with other local artists. Jami Rae knows this is only the beginning and is looking forward to more shows in 2009. With every experience, she becomes stronger. With every new, brilliant song she writes, she understands why her style is so special. And with every barrier that is built, she will push through it and show you what she is made of.
