Katrina Wilkerson, actress as well as Neo-soul songstress known as Leira Love was born in Orlando, Florida, in 1989 to a Puerto Rican mother and West Indian and African American father. Displaying an interest in music from an early age, Leira studied classical music until she acquired an electric microphone in her early teen years, which launched her passion for music. Inspired by such ’90s alt-rock icons such as Prince, Veruca Salt, and others, Leira formed a style all her own. “if you have a talent, that talent comes from a higher power (God), and if you have inspiration to do what you do, then that inspiration also comes from God, so therefore you must use it to motivate and inspire others with that talent you were blessed with. never let negative influences stop you from being your best and being who you are.” She began singing in her middle and high school gospel choir in Fort Washington, MD. There, she developed her soulful and vivid sound. After graduating from Friendly high school, Leira enrolled at Bowie State University to study Broadcast Journalism. While at school, Leira did numerous broadcasting events, acting and talent shows. Ms. Love began turning her poetry into music in college, as well as recording. Destant to get her music heard, Leira Love at 20 years old, began performing outside on the streets at some of Washington DC’s most historic places and is currently receiving incredible feedback from her listeners.
