The music of the San Francisco based Small Change Romeos is as diverse as the city it comes from. Although predominately Rock, the group prides itself on and writing catchy songs that carry real weight, while transcending pop with a fresh new sound. Amidst the highly charged political climate of the times the Small Change Romeos’ had plenty of inspiration to write and record “01.20.09” (The date of Bush’s last day in office) The song and now video is not only a musical retrospective of the failures of the Bush administration over the last eight years but also a message of change and hope for the future. The genesis for the project occurred after the independent film company, Loud Mouth Group heard the song as featured on BushsLastDay.com. They were so moved by it that they approached the band with offer to shoot a music video at no cost. The video not only captures the events of the last 8 years with powerful imagery but also with mural footage from the band’s hometown of San Francisco, an area that has a long tradition of spawning progressive and politically minded musicians. Recent viral viewers have commented: “This video puts all the rotten events of the Bush administration to music. Fantastic!!” and “…not a moment too soon...this country and planet needs this change !!” Songwriters Chris James and Mike Ruy backed by drummer Matt Berg, Bassist Robert Wright, and Keyboardist John Patterson, draw from various styles such as Rock, Americana, Alternative, and Reggae and use pop sensibilities to get their musical message across. Sizzling guitar work, vocal harmonies and groove to match, SCR not only continues to fire up audiences with an epic and energizing live show, but also with crafty, catchy and at times politically driven songs. Their music has recently attracted the attention of the majors and early next year a debut album is set for release backed by distribution from Universal, with a tour to follow. The new record features a host of talented musical guests including: Dave Rude (Tesla), Randy Forrester (Eddie Money), J Bowman of (Spearhead) and Phil Bennett (Starship). In addition, the Small Change Romeos have already had their music featured in commercials seen on various TV stations including CNN, and they have been broadcast on Internet, satellite and local radio. They are also a featured act on the ongoing Comcast television show SF Sound. In 2005, the track “Not Like This” was chosen to be part of the SAUZA "LIVE ALL SUMMER" compilation CD that distributed 40,000 copies nationwide. As aforementioned, BushsLastDay.com recently added the Romeos’ “01.20.09” as the website's theme song and video, and this year the group has been SNOCAP's featured artist and download.
