It would seem an impossible dream to discover that you have been selected to open for Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Colbie Caillat, Erykah Badu and 5 other top female acts, but for Vancouver musician Steph Macpherson, this dream has become a reality. On July 1, 2010 after being selected through OurStage, as the VancouIt would seem an impossible dream to discover that you have been selected to open for Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Colbie Caillat, Erykah Badu and 5 other top female acts, but for Vancouver musician Steph Macpherson, this dream has become a reality. On July 1, 2010 after being selected through OurStage.com, as the Vancouver winner, Steph performed at Lilith Fair. As part of the media coverage for the event, she also received interviews with CTV News, ETalk Daily, and the Peak 100.5 radio station. She also had airplay on CBC radio. The news came just 3 weeks after learning she had been chosen as one of 20 artist, from nearly 500 applicants, to be part of Vancouver's radio station, The Peak 100.5, and Music B.C’s Peak Performance Project. The project provides musicians with the opportunity to work with top industry professionals, some of BC’s best up and coming musicians, and a chance to win significant funding support. Clearly Steph Macpherson’s latest EP “To You” has caused the music industry to take notice. But it is her stand out live shows that will keep them believing. Upcoming performances include opening for Tom Cochrane and Colin James at the Vancouver Island Blue Sky Festival in Victoria, B.C. on August 14th, and showcasing at Break Out West (WCMA) in Kelowna from October 21st-25th. Steph’s songs present fresh, catchy, melodies and harmonies, while maintaining lyrical substance. Steph draws influence from many different genres, a fact that is clearly presented in her latest six song E.P., "To You" (2009). Her song "Keeping Time" features folk/pop melodies and "Letters", in contrast, has a more alt-country flare while maintaining a pop sensibility. The Kiwi Canadian singer-songwriter began her endeavor into the world of music at an early age. After seeing 'The Little Mermaid' for the first time, she knew she either wanted to be a singer or a Mermaid. Eventually casting aside her childhood dream of growing a fin, she turned to songwriting, and began pursuing music. In her hometown of Victoria, B.C., Steph has shared stages with the likes of Jesse Winchester, Leeroy Stagger, Greg Macpherson, Kinnie Starr, Raising the Fawn, and Yukon Blonde (formerly Alphababy), as well as friends and local music heroes Aidan Knight, Vince Vaccaro, Maurice, and Acres of Lions. She also sang backing vocals on friend and fellow musician Vince Vaccaro's album, "Animals", released 2009 by Cordova Bay Entertainment Group. Steph has toured from the West Coast of Canada, to Montreal, and written/recorded two E.P.'s: "To You" (2009), was recorded at Infinity Studios Victoria, B.C. with friend and producer, Jason Cook (also produced or engineered: Tal Bachman, Wil & Theset) and "Shapes Only You Can Make" (2005) recorded/produced by Ryan Hauschild (Hannah Georgas, Hey Ocean!, Elias) of Vancouver B.C. Steph now calls Vancouver home, and is currently collaborating on a music video for her song "Keeping Time", and booking a BC/Alberta tour for the fall.
