Metaphysical text books and personal accounts of love at first sight inform us that similar energies in the universe are constantly pulling towards one another in the wake of gravity’s cosmic pursuit of absolute balance. This idea may explain the initial positive feeling and continued good vibration surrounding the New Jersey Shore based musical group The Jingo Slang. This band of four individuals initially came together in early 2006, at a rehearsal space in Red Bank, NJ. The group formed shortly after drummer Dan Stark and Bassist Russell Eia met while working at a local restaurant. A friendship developed between the two, based at first on a common sense of humor, however it was soon evident to both that they also shared musical tastes and aspirations. Both being between bands at the time, they began meeting for improvised jam sessions in 2005; a musical chemistry was immediately evident, based largely in intricate rhythmic choices and a mutual desire for experimentation. Shortly thereafter, they agreed to form a band. Both Eia and Stark expressed an interest in incorporating members from previous musical projects. Stark brought into the band talented local guitarist Matthew Kloufetos; Eia asked his long-time musical collaborator and friend Michael Carlo to front the group and play rhythm guitar. Upon meeting each other, the foursome became fast friends and found it surprisingly easy to connect and relate to each other on a musical level, composing their first song within their first three hour session together. It was apparent that they all wanted the same thing in song structure and group dynamic; from that initial positive reaction to each other, the band was born. The Jingo Slang has spent the ensuing four years since their inception playing shows in the Jersey Shore and New York metropolitan area. Time spent constantly practicing and playing music with each other has allowed the band to continuously refine their unique sound and group/personal abilities, developing their skills in song writing and performance. Since their first rehearsal the band has been determined to present a dynamic musical experience, for their own enjoyment and for the entertainment of listeners and audience members. The decidedly original sound and feeling of the music stems from the excitement and dedication of each member in regards to the group creative process, and is also credited to the range of influences, both musical and non musical, that the individual members bring to the table. Each musician has played in numerous bands, and studied music formally. Though each grew up surrounded by rock music, which undoubtedly inspires the core of their sound, there is a clear influence and acknowledgement of other musical forms within their songs, most notably jazz, funk, salsa, and progressive. It is the combination of these techniques and others, both musically and spiritually, that allows for the ferocious yet rhythmic and texturally colorful styling of The Jingo Slang. The band credits their initial success in establishing their sound and presence to a continued appreciation for each other as friends and players. They are dedicated above all to the notion that music can be something more than just organized sounds, that it can be a total physical, emotional, ethereal experience. They wish only to continue playing together and continue growing and bettering themselves as musicians and as people. The Jingo Slang also extends great thanks to their friends, family, and true loves for their continued support and guidance.
