Something Else! started out as a musical number for our local beauty pageant in 1985. Something Else! started out as a musical number for our local beauty pageant in 1985. We sang "Ain't Misbehaving" and had so much fun that we decided we needed to form a permanent group and hit the road! With Sylvia Waid's dynamic piano arrangements fueling the musical furnace, Peggy Jones, Merle Dollar and Anne McNabb adding the vocal fireworks, we four cousins gave new life to old standards like "Alabamy Bound", "I can't Give you Anything But Love", and "Blue Skies" in exquisite four part harmonies. We entertained all over the area, from the smallest parties, to corporate to-do's at The Club in Birmingham. We even did some political Bar-B-Ques over the years! After three years, Anne left us and we became the Something Else! Vocal Trio you see today. We three cousins have continued to build our musical repertoire and have honed our musical style around Sylvia's masterful piano. She is the orchestra, providing the melody, the rhythm and the driving beat, all from one tiny little wisp of a woman, who literally becomes "one" with her instrument. Peggy's velvety alto voice adds a rich resonant blend to the harmonies and her vibrant personality lights up the stage. You can find us every week-end at Local Color Cafe in Springville, dancing, prancing and kicking up our heels, still totally in love with the music. Even after 25 years there is no place I would rather be that right there in the middle with these two incredibly talented ladies singing our hearts out for the sheer joy of it!
