Shawtee RE is a Canadian born international Hip Hop/Dancehall artist, multi award winner and nominee, musician, songwriter, published model (signed to Toronto's own "EMA Models"), dancer (currenly training with top choregrapher Danny Davalous. His credits include Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez) and actor with a production deal with Grammy Award Winning Producer Ryan "Ghost" Bowser. Shawtee RE won "Rap Single Of The Year (2015)" for Shawtee RE "Spazz" (produced by Grammy Award Winner Ryan Bowser) at The "Canadian Urban Televison Awards (CUT Awards) has been nominated as "Female Artist Of The Year 2014" by Radio Invasion Music Awards (USA) and "Rapper Of The Year 2014" by The Obsidian Awards (Calgary). Shawtee RE has also been nominated in the top female rappers in Canada by "HookedUP B Magazine", "bigmouthsonline.com", "HipHopCanada.com" and "CanadianDope.com". Shawtee RE has also graced the covers of "HookedUP B Magazine" (Toronto), "IAMU Magazine" (Atlanta), "MyndGame Magazine" (USA) and "T.O.P. Magazine" (USA). Shawtee RE hs also been featured twice in XXL Magazine as "Canada's Cream Of The Crop" (2015).
Born in Montreal, Quebec to a Trinidadian father and Canadian mother, Shawtee RE grew up in a household of much conflict and pain due to her mother's alcoholism and battle with anorexia. At the tender age of 6 years old, Shawtee RE was awoken in her sleep by her younger brother only to find her mother had stabbed herself in the stomach with a kitchen knife . "That was only the begging." Said the young artist. Shawtee RE's mother had survived only to create more misery within the family's home in the years to follow and long after the household made their permeate move to Calgary, Alberta. Shawtee RE was only 14 years old. Craving stability and independence in her life, Shawtee RE turned to the streets to make money. "It made me feel powerful when I was powerless... I was good at it..." Giving her the name "Shawtee" (shorty) for her petite 5'3 frame and later "RE" short for the urban drug term "RE-up". In 2006, after years of weekly visits to emergency rooms and even admittance to the psychological ward, Shawtee RE finally lost her mother to her addiction. This drove the rapper deeper in to the street life but also into music. "I made a promise to her on her deathbed that I would be successful in music...".
The first launch of her career began in 2008 when she was featured on “Ambush TV” (Canada’s largest DVD magazine). Later on that year she began working with local rapper $truck (DPG affiliate). Along side his label she released two mixtape “1st Lady” (2008) and “Diary Of A G” (2009). Together they performed many live shows including opening for rapper Flo-Rida and hosting the 2008 Juno Awards after-party with Russell Peters. Shawtee RE sets herself apart from other female rappers with her 8 years of professional training in dance (Hip Hop and Dancehall) and her talents as not only as songwriter, producer (Digital Sound and Music Production certificate) but also as a pianist and ability to write her own musical compositions. Shawtee RE is also a trained actor (Quest Theater and University Of Calgary). But with her rise to success in the music industry, she quickly learned the dark side of the hustle and could no longer focus both on her music and the streets. After many abusive relationships, having her house raided by police and attempts on her life, she was pushed to leave the street life behind and to pursue her dream before it was too late. In 2010, Shawtee RE signed with management company 7 Figure Entertainment (Miami) to advance her career. In 2011 Shawtee RE released her first single “Rydin On My Coattailz” which gained international exposure and radio play including a “top 40” station in Canada and many stations in the US and UK. Later on that year she met multi Platinum Grammy award winning producer Ryan "Ghost" Bowser (won the Grammy for Nelly “Dilemma” featuring Kelly Roland) who helped Shawtee RE to develop her unique style and sound while staying true to her story. Due to the success of the young artist’s first single, Shawtee RE signed a worldwide licensing and distribution deal with AIN Music & Distribution/Blue Pie Records (2012). Later on that year, Shawtee RE dropped her much anticipated third mixtape “No REmorse” hosted by international celebrity DJ Prince, with huge success. Proving once again, she has the continued support and love from her fan base. In late 2012, early 2013, Shawtee RE parted ways with her distribution and management company to focus solely on creating new music for her upcoming album (Bad Habits) with producer Ryan "Ghost" Bowser as well as continuing to perform live including opening for legendary Dancehall artist Mr. Vegas. Together with Ghost Music, Shawtee RE released three singles "Gimme Dat", "Hello" and "Can't Keep Me Down" gaining more attention to her story of survival, perseverance and rebellious attitude landing her a worldwide distribution deal with SMG/WOK/Sony Red Music joining the likes of platinum selling artists such as Eve, Knoc-turn'al and Childish Gambino. Shawtee RE released her first single and official video with SMG/WOK/Sony Red Music in September 2013 tittled "I Don't Care" with enormous success landing her mainstream radio play in Canada and the US including spins on the legendary "POWER 105.1" in New York City. The stunning visuals in her official video (dropped January 2014) accompanied by gear supplied by clothing giant Puma, were so well recieved that Shawtee RE "I Don't Care" can now be found on all cable TV (Shaw On Demand, Bell TV) and Galaxie Music Channels (Canada wide), VEVO, Vlad TV, Yahoo Music (worldwide) and all major Hip Hop sites in Canada next to the likes of Drake, Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Katy Perry, Rihanna and many more. Soon, it was back on the road for Shawtee RE as she continued to perform all year including opening for Canadian R&B Juno Award Winner Karl Wolf. In October 2014, Shawtee RE was nominated as "Rapper Of The Year" at the Calgary Obsidian Awards. A great reflection of all Shawtee RE's accomplishments.
In February 2015, Grammy Award Winner producer Ryan "Ghost" Bowser and Shawtee RE teamed up again to release their 4th single titled "Spazz", independently. Rave reviews followed from all major Hip Hop sites including "HipHopCanada.com". "Spazz" won "Rap Single Of The Year" at the "Canadian Urban Television Awards" beating Canadian Hip Hop legands such as "Madchild", "Mestro" and "Peter Jackson". Radio play, TV appearances and live performances in many Canadian cities soon followed. Shawtee RE performed live (including the following) on "The Sunday Omony Show" (Shaw TV Cable, Calgary), "CJSW 90.0FM" (University Of Calgary), NUTV (Shaw TV Cable, Calgary), as well as headlining in cities such as Calgary, Toronto, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. All the hard work this young artist has put in continues to pay off as she was featured in XXL Magazine's front page as "Canada's Cream Of The Crop" (xxlmag.com, July 2015) and was featured in the print issue this fall and winter (2015). All eyes are now on this young artist and entrepreneur as she transfers her tittle as one of the top female rappers in Canada onto the world. Shawtee RE is currently trainng multiple times a week with world-renowed vocal coach Paula Griffith and top dance choreographer Danny Davalous. Let's watch as she continues to prove that she is the international triple threat the entertainment industry has been waiting for.
