Growing up in a small 3 bedroom house in Raleigh, North Carolina; Al Chauncy experienced what it was like to live in a lower income neighborhood called Apollo Heights. With three brothers in one room and one boxed floor television in the living room, he had to become more creative. Being the Son of a Rock and Roll/Jazz trained Pianist, Al Chauncy’s musically inheritance begun at an early age 11; penning his first song to the Maxi single instrumental of Ice – T’s “Original Gangster”. Being involved around church since early childhood, Al Chauncy learned three part harmonies from singing in the choir, which he frequently uses in the hooks in his music.
His story telling style is heavily influence by The Notorious BIG and his love for storylines in films. At the age of 16 he joined a super rap group Bloodline which comprised of 6 members who sung and rapped; they were compared to The Fugees and even got a chance to work with the Fugees producer/engineer Joe “The butcher” Nicolo in Philadelphia. In the midst of the few lucrative deals they had on the table, the group disbanded due to creative differences. Al Chauncy continued his grind and became a state wide figure in the Carolina music scene, being nominated for Best Rap Artist in the 2009 North Carolina Underground Music Awards and being titled as The Carolina Mayor from his local fan base.
In December 09’ Al Chauncy saw a bigger picture and realized that being The Carolina Mayor was as big as he was going to get. So he uprooted his movement and moved to Atlanta, Georgia; upon arrival to Atlanta, Al Chauncy began Performing at countless open mics and showcasing his music to the crowds with his impeccable voice as a hip-hop artist. While performing at those open mics Al Chauncy got the opportunity to meet Chris “Traxx” Rogers (Cee- Lo Green, Pussy Cat Dolls, etc.). Traxx invited Al to his recording studio and was revitalized by Al Chauncy’s raw talent.
After previously working with Cee-Lo Green, Chris Traxx Rogers struck gold with this new phenomenal artist and molded Al Chauncy into a Hip-hop/R&B/Soul sensation. Under Traxx guidance Al Chauncy fully converted from Hip Hop to Soul singing and is on the verge of being one of the music industry greats.
