Open your eyes – and look to the Altered Sky! Once upon a time a group of friends had a dream about making music together – but far from being a fairy tale, the story is coming true for Glasgow rock band Altered Sky. In the words of lyricist Ana Nowosielska, they are “painting stories in real life” with their infectious brand of self-written material – and it’s never too late to join in the fun as they embark on an ambitious programme over the next year. A number of bands these days are female-fronted and a few have girl drummers, but not many outside all-female groups have both. That’s just one reason why Altered Sky stand out from the crowd. Formed in 2010, the hard-working five-piece have travelled along the traditional route of playing small venues up and down the country. Those efforts look set to bear rich fruit as the stages, crowds, and fanbase all become bigger, as do with the bands they play alongside. Career highlights so far include playing Edinburgh’s Picture House a month after All Time Low were on stage there; travelling down to London for headline gigs at the 100 Club and Camden Barfly; supporting We Are The In Crowd, also in the Scottish Capital, for the American band’s final warm-up before they graced the Reading and Leeds Festival main stages this year; and a headlining show in the main hall at the Garage in Glasgow. It’s an exciting time for the band as they launch their new EP Stop and Live, which was recorded in Cardiff’s famous Longwave Studios with producer Romesh Dodangoda who has worked with the likes of Motorhead, Kids In Glass Houses, and Funeral For A Friend. The EP is a follow-up to the critically-acclaimed In This World – and the band already have self-penned material lined up for their first full-length album, which is one of their big targets for 2014. Also about to be released is the new single Where I Belong, in tandem with an eye-catching video shot with Sitcom Soldiers. It’s the second time they have worked together, following previous single I Know You Know which was featured on both Kerrang! and Scuzz TV music channels. Indeed, if you go down to the woods today, you might catch a glimpse of band members sitting in trees… or dancing around in fancy dress costumes… or hanging about in bed suspended above the ground – all fun elements of their new video, in which the fearless five did all their own stunts! The band line-up is Ana Nowosielska, vocals; Amy Blair, drums/backing vocals; Neil Ramsay, guitar; Richard Passe, guitar; Ross Archibald, bass. Most frequently asked question – who do Altered Sky sound like? Most frequent assumptions to that question – other female-fronted bands such as Paramore, We Are The In Crowd, Tonight Alive….. All flattering, but all wrong! Altered Sky sound like – Altered Sky. But don’t just take our word for it. The proof of this pudding is in the hearing, so join the growing numbers of fans who listen to them and form your own opinion. But remember: when Ana tells you to sing, wave, clap, or jump – make sure you do! If you don’t leave an Altered Sky gig feeling hot and happy, you’re not doing it right… And when she lets down her “goldy locks” hair, Rapunzel-like, it’s time for the crowd to grab hold and do exactly the same. This fairy tale is becoming reality!
