Amrita Sen is a world renowned singer and songwriter of Indian-influenced music who has crossed into most other genres with her beautiful style and unique talents. Widely recognized as one of the pre-eminent singers of Indian music in the United States, Amrita has provided music for major film soundtracks, television shows and pop albums. In 2009 she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Academy Awards performing Jai Ho, The Oscar winning song from the movie Slumdog Millionaire.
Amrita grew up understanding music as her mother and Aunts are classical Indian singers and as a child she performed extensively at major venues like Madison Square Garden. Although influenced heavily by Indian music she’s no stranger to rock & roll citing The Police and Led Zeppelin as a couple of her favorites.
Amrita was the featured Hindi singer in the song “Love is the Answer” performed by the band Weezer, in their latest album “Ratitude”. She has performed and co-written two songs with Ozomatli for the upcoming album. And starting February 2010, Amrita and her brother Ananda Sen will be the featured Indian musicians for Sprite’s worldwide music campaign alongside chosen performers from Africa, South America, and China.
