Lew Andre Mathews, that's me, I was born in 1948 in Louisanna, where both my parents were from, but grew up traveling the world as an Air Force brat.
I've been playing guitar since I was 11 years old. My first band was a surf music band with friends in high School. I loved Hendrix, Cream, acid and classical rock through the 60's.
In the 70's I was introduced to Folk music for the first time at Anderson Fair in Houston, Texas. I was hooked. I started writing my own songs and continued to play lead guitar many bands. I've had the pleasure of working with Townes Van Zandt, Freddy Fender, Lucinda Williams, Billy Joe Shaver, Richard Dobson, and many other talented folks over the years.
I now have little local band with my wife, Sharon May, and we play gigs close to home here in Texas. I still record with other bands, and gig once in a while with the Hemmeridge mountain Boys, an agressive folk comedy act, and more often with one of my old bands from Houston, The Louvres, a really great all original alternative rock band. Fun, fun, fun.
I have a small studio here at home, and record other artists from time to time, and keep busy writing all types of songs. Genres just don't seem to be able to lock me down into any one hole. I like to listen to and play all kinds of music....
Peace and Love Rules,
