Born and raised on the southside of Youngstown,Ohio. Ras Smoove brings you
a inside view to whats really going on. POSITIVE VIBRATIONS! Something that
hip-hop is lacking, inspiration to the youth. Giving them more to think about than
just the corner and sagging and selling and wheeling and dealing."MY TIME"
is the album I am releasing now and it is a combination of hip-hop and reggae
and a huge drop of reality. What happen to the words that touch home and not
just in the hood.
I started in this game a long time ago, in 1992 I started a group called "3 SENSE"
which stood for KNOWLEDGE,WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING. We wore a silver
penny around our necks and it kinda was a double brain teaser. We quickly hit he
scene around the city, winning talent shows and city shows. DA MAAAD KRU is the
clan we created for all the guys that wanted to be with us. From 93' to 97' we had
touched many spots in OHIO. That is where I found out about copyrights real quick.
We got caught up with some of the wrong people and got the shaft at a young age.
What a lesson to be learned. Everybody went their own way after that except for the
choice few thats still reppin' to this day.
From there I went solo,in 2001 I recorded GRYME FAMILY with SARKAZM and
CHECK MARK two classic emcees from THE YO! And C-DUB made the tracks.
We had some great music but I dont think the guys were ready for things to come
back and have the positive feedback that it did. We had a deal but it seemed
that nobody wanted to leave their normal job to take a chance on the music they
paid so much time and effort for. That left me wondering what are we doing this for,
FUN, A HOBBY, TO SAY THAT I DO THIS BUT THIS IS ALL I WANT FROM IT! NAAAH!
Not me.... I need to touch more than just family and friends. These songs for the most
part are completed but unreleased. That would be two groups with music that is
I had some health problems and everybody knew I was done after my lung collapse
but they were trippin, me give up on my dreams....(let me think about that)....Yea Right!
I then got with THE ARK BAND in 2003 and I traveled all over the U.S with them, playing
roots reggae music with a conscious positive hip-hop vibe.We released "All Things
Considered"(2005). I am grateful for all the road experience that I got from them, but
I didnt feel it was going to fulfill my hunger. A lot of band drama which comes with a
band but I wasnt able to include my original songs and the creation of such things just
weren't happening or even in the future. In search of a project of my own and other
reasons I care not to discuss,I parted ways with the band. I then formed my own reggae
band THE A.A.R.M.S BAND,African American Reggae Musicians Society. While in the
process of getting this band together I recorded my first solo album with a super producer.
I knew this guy for a long time but we never discussed creating music. When I got free
from The Ark, we linked up immediatly and as a team we bring you "MY TIME". My man
Paris Bihari is some of the brainwork in this head noddin infectious cd.
I'm just trying to give the people some music thats different than anything they have
ever heard. Something with that special feeling,as I like to say "bring the real spit back"
I like to connect with the brain and make people think about what I said, rewind it and
listen again to make sure you heard what you thought you did. I strive for clear
speech so you can recieve everything I planned on giving you and more. So that is
why I decided to call it "MY TIME" because it is indeed my time to shine and do me.
I have given so much to groups and bands but not myself and now is the time for just that.
