Portrait of Joshua Watkinson

As most of you have witnessed, early teenage years are marked by uneven and irregular surges of physical development between the opposite sexes. It was a freak gym class accident that left one pubertal chap cursing this natural order of the world. A routine handball demonstration turned sour when the rather lanky young man collided mid-air with a female classmate and alleged descendant of Paul Bunyan. At the age of 14, with one hand in a cast and the other arm in a sling, Joshua Watkinson adopted a rarely used, neglected electric guitar from a closet at his grandparents’ house. Despite his temporary handicap, he was hooked and devoted several hours everyday to teaching himself how to play.

Josh spent his high school years in New Hampshire, where goats are much sparser than popularly assumed, continuing to refine his skills. Most evenings, if he wasn’t on the soccer pitch, he could be found in the basement or garage working on new music. When it was time to decide where to attend college and what career to pursue, the decision was an easy one. Music had to be at the center of his future.

After spending his freshman year at the University of New Hampshire, Josh entered Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where he had the opportunity to study with many world-renowned musicians and teachers. At Berklee, he began to hone his songwriting skills and became a truly honest lyricist. His songs verge on the oxymoron, combining soulful, moving lyrics with colorful progressions. He has the ability to put to music those fleeting thoughts that most people have but never verbalize, and to occasionally write third-person point-of-view autobiographies…
