Portrait of Piff Nova
EVERYDAY A STAR IS BORN...

Piff The SuperNova gives us a familiar feeling.Do you remember the first time you heard 50 cent or Biggie Smalls? The pain in their voice, the deep lyrics? Piff seems to have brought that back to music for this generation. Born AJ Downey to a Jamaican mother and Nova Scotian father, AJ is the middle child of 11 siblings.Raised in Metro Housing in the Jane area in Toronto,Ontario what the artist now known as Piff honed his skills as an artist. Influenced by Outkast and the Goodie Mob,Biggie Smalls,Big Daddy Kane growing up, Piff would be the most unlikely candidate to bear the crown of one the best rappers his city has birthed.Rap cyphers in his neighborhood and school gave people an early indication that this young man actually has talent. The smooth but ruggedness in his voice is a direct parallel to his demeanor.Smooth, calm, cool and collected with a smile, but blink once and realise the environment he grew up in was far from sweet . Going to the studio with his brother at an early age Piff was literally introduced to Hip Hop with 2 turntables and a mic at age 12. At 16 Piff moved to Florida to play basketball but realising that basketball wasnt his calling, Piff got to the streets and back to music. Recording local hit "Get Money" in 2006 and gaining noteriety on Myspace. With his deep bariton ish voice some say he is the "Black Johnny Cash" of this era in music. On songs like the Kid Cudi cover "Die Young" and "Live Forever", Piff displays his varied talent. That old familiar feeling we get when something is real and touches your soul is back....Long Live The King
