Mordecai Leon Washington was born June 11th 1984 in the city of Houston, but was raised in Austin TX where he resides today. While growing up in a family of eight, at the age of six, it was a constant struggle for his family to get on their feet after his father left. While moving approximately every six months from place to place, he and his family did what they could to get by on ends meat. He later found stability in competing in talent shows with his sisters for money (His sisters were a singing group at the time). After winning many contests, eventually, Leon decided that music was his calling, because it kept him focused and out of trouble: choreography beat making, and songwriting became very important to him during this time.
With a history as a dancer, performer and beat maker, Leon decided to take his talent to the next level and began rapping at the age of 16 (which came natural to him because he was already songwriting). Vowing to become one of the greats someday, he approached John Beal to manage him. His influences include Ludacris, Nelly, and Outkast; all creative in their art, diverse and larger then life.
Although sought out for his talent in music, his accomplishments go beyond his musical ability. With a life long history of being an honor student, a star in theater, class favorite and a force on the basketball courts through out Jr. High and High School, his next step was to go to college. Promising himself to finish school first, he graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Radio/Television. During the time, he was attending school he dedicated his time to embellishing his craft as an entertainer and educating himself on the music industry.
After years of studio experience and performances while in school, Leon caught the attention of Tomar and Salih Williams of Carnival beats, (the platinum production team known for producing such hits as “Still tippin” and “Sittin Sidewayz”). After years of working with them, the chemistry was like magic and Carnival beats became a second family to him. Today, Leon continues to work with Carnival beats and many other up and coming producers all across Texas in efforts to complete his first project. The anticipation builds as he is looking to drop his first single. Leon Lyric is prepared to drop his first actual album November 2010 called Lime Lime. Lime Light will bring energy, lyricism, inspiration, dancing and much more to the world. To really set the stage for Leon, this summer he wrapped up his first acting role in an independent film shot in Austin, TX called blacktino, which feature Hollywood star Danny Trejo. Blacktino will be launched in the Spring of 2011.
The entertainment industry has been long overdue for an entertainer like Leon Lyric. With his talent, attitude and work ethic he will constantly push his brand to the next level. At the age of 26, he is destined to take the world by storm in his quest for the ultimate success.
