Howard Pearl “hp”

You may not know his name but you definitely know his music. Artist Howard Pearl or “hp” as he is known by, is a one-of-a-kind music master with the type of skill and ability music students would kill for and whose work has appeared everywhere.

hp was born on an American military base in Tachikowa, Japan. His father’s military career took him all over the world including Germany, Colorado, Kansas and Virginia before they settled in Oceanside, NY where he planted the seeds that would bear fruit to his career in music.

The artist attended SUNY at Old Westbury where he studied with music masters Ken McIntyre, Warren Smith and Sinclair Acey before graduating with a B.A. in Performing Arts & Composition. He relocated to Los Angeles, CA and enrolled in the Guitar Institute of Technology where he improved his skills under the guidance of legendary Jazz guitarists Pat Martino and Joe Diorio and Blues guitarist Robben Ford.

After graduating, hp set out immediately to establish his name and career. He was a prominent member of L.A. Funk group Baby Love before returning to NY to work as an audio engineer at the legendary Apollo Theatre. His time there was marked by work with legends such as Stevie Wonder, Al Green, James Brown, Chaka Khan, The Temptations and many others.

His dexterity at playing in a variety of genres (Rock, Funk, Jazz, R&B) and engineering prowess landed him work with Nirvana, Aerosmith, Jamie Foxx, Babyface, Mario, Nelly and others. His work has appeared on television programs including “A Current Affair” and “The Tyra Banks Show.”

Howard Pearl continues to innovate and astound with each new project he tackles.
