Portrait of Rita Movsessian
"Some of my earliest childhood memories took place at my Mother's piano. Before learning how to read music, my main focus was to experiment with the instrument - to improvise and create combinations of sound. Essentially, this is what it means to compose organically... with genuine purity. It is this same approach that I continue to strive for."

Pianist-Composer Rita Movsessian lay her foundation in music with years of rigorous classical training. Having pursued her Master's degree in piano performance, Rita soon realized that her true passion lay in composition. She has had chamber, choral, and orchestral works performed by ensembles including the University of British Columbia Jazz Band, string orchestra, USingers, as well as instrumentalists on violin, viola, guitar, percussion.
Some other notable works include her string quartet, From the Shadows, written for her Father, and Dream States, a collection of piano pieces performed for Vancouver television in 2004.

Rita is currently working on original material for her full length solo album
She is also collaborating with a number of talented Toronto musicians.

"To be an artist, you have to love and cry... to be free, and to see yourself with an open mind."
