Portrait of Rayne Davis

Songsmith Extraordinaire - Rayne Davis offers up an artful variation of musical creativity, a liken to and reminiscent of traditional, "old school", American country music partnered with a healthy dose of 70's, southern California country/folk/rock
Be it said that Rayne's mix of musical influences lends to comprise a fresh, new sounding, songfulness that is definitive of today's contemporary American country music. Neo-old school, American country music singer/songsmith Rayne Davis is a well deserved graduate and veteran of the Los Angeles/Southern California country music scene and community
A southern California native, Rayne's childhood memories resound with his parents love of classic, hard core, American country music, ie - Ernest Tubb, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings were the household play list of Rayne's earliest musical influences
As a young 'un, Rayne recalls often tagging along with his honky-tonkin' parents to many of the popular, classic country/western music haunts of the day. As a juvenile patron of the legendary Troubadour and McCabe's on the Sunset Strip and the San Fernando Valley's now forlorn, Palomino Club - Rayne can attest to having heard and experienced first hand, the historic "hay days" of the newly emerging southern California country music scene
Rayne's teenage interest in music and songwriting drew inspiration from many of the early southern California country/folk/rock pioneers, ie - Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Pure Prairie League, Poco and the Eagles. Rayne admired singer/songwriters John David Souther, Chris Hillman, Neil Young, Steven Stills, and southern country/rock influences; Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Marshall Tucker and Charlie Daniels Bands. Aspirations came from The Band, Willis Alan Ramsey, Lee Clayton and country music "Outlaws" Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Hank "Bocephus " Williams, Jr., David Allan Coe, John Anderson
More contemporary influences include; Joe Ely, Rodney Crowell, Mac McAnally, Steve Wariner, Vince Gill, Shenandoah, Diamond Rio, Highway 101, Marty Stuart and Brooks & Dunn
Over the years Rayne has performed as front man and/or player in several significant and noteworthy southern California launched groups, ie - The Dead Horse Saloon, Rodeo, Interstate West, A Band Called Hoss, Red Vinyl & the Coffee House Cowboys and Six Gun Law. Rayne has shared in pleasure of entertaining country music audiences at many acclaimed Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley venues including The Palomino Club, North Hollywood, CA - The Sundance Saloon, Calabasas, CA - The Mine Shaft, Calabasas, CA - The Coral, Topanga Canyon, CA - The Sagebrush Cantina, Calabasas, CA - Viva Fresh, Burbank, CA - Billy Block's Western Beat @ Highland Grounds, Hollywood, CA - Ronnie Mack's Barn Dance @ Jack's Sugar Shack, Hollywood, CA and Hallenbeck's Main Street Cafe, North Hollywood, CA
Of recent accomplishment Rayne wrangled up a traditional roots oriented, old west, cowboy troupe; Outlaw Black. In just a few quick strides Outlaw Black earned invitation to perform at Michael Martin Murphey's West Fest. The Outlaw Black troupe has shared billings with many of today's most popular contemporary, Cowboy music performers and entertainers the likes of; The Sons of the San Joaquin, Don Edwards, Waddie Mitchelle, Baxter Black, Dave Stamey and R. W. Hampton. Prestigiously, Outlaw Black shared the honor of having "head lined" as opening act for renowned, Canadian Cowboy Folk singer Ian Tyson
In 2009 Rayne released his first ever solo artist, singer/songwriter CD under the guise; Rayne Davis/The Deadwood Sonneteer. A collection of American old west, historically inspired compositions which Rayne refers to as his "Own Brand" of Gold Camp/Plunk & Stomp/Cowboy Folk music. Presently Rayne continues to actively pursue his love and passion for songsmithing both American country and cowboy music
Rayne attributes his ever creative drive and inspiration to the positive reception and support of his very much appreciated listening audience. From the heart, Rayne expresses that he is always thankful and obliged to his loyal following of listeners and fans and to a higher power for having been blessed with the gift of music and songsmithing
Rayne thanks you all kindly for lending an ear !
