Surrounded by singers and musicians, her Grandmother, who sang with "THE BETTY LAWRENCE SINGERS" in the late 70's & 80's, taught Ajei to read sections of the Bible and sing them at church. Sunday after Sunday, in between Bible studies Choir rehearsals and school, an being allowed only to listen to and sing church songs. Contemporary Gospel Artists like Kirk Franklin, Yolonda Adams and Karen CLark Sheard gave Ajei hope for barriers being broken in gospel music. In school talent shows Ajei started to perform and understand that singing what you experience can heal the soul, mind and body.
