Portrait of Rich Tycoon
Veteran hip-hop artist Rich Tycoon, formerly Filthy Rich, not only makes music, he makes music happen.  He's known as master at story telling, which is a skill he began developing as a youngster in his parent's home in east Oakland, California.  The 12-year old emcee took the initiative to begin writing raps back then, and today he uses the same get up and go-ness to push his music independently.

Tycoon co-founded the Santa Cruz/Bay Area rap group Black Bizness in 2005 and since then he has performed and recorded with luminaries such as Chris Rene, SF Bay Area rap sensations San Quinn, Keak Da Sneak Indecent the Slapmaster, Yukmouth, and more.

Rich Tycoon first arrived in Santa Cruz from Oakland in the late-eighties via the juvenile court system. A ward of McDowell Youth Homes, Tycoon sharpened his songwriting and rapping skills while living in group homes. By age 20 Rich Tycoon was working with hip-hop megastars Sir Mix-a-Lot and Rick Rubin.

Tycoon’s story, which is the staple of his music, combines the lifestyles of underground Santa Cruz, the struggles of East Oakland, and the consequences of the judicial system.  It is in the backdrop of his music and video's where listeners will find a motivational message rooted in determination and courage, not to mention the game one needs to survive the street life.
