I have been in love with music all of my life. As a child, I listened intently and obsessively, studying and memorizing the lyrics to old, classic songs. My biggest problem at that time was that I was incredibly naïve and took the lyrics in songs way too literally. Subsequently, I was confused--a lot--and often asked questions like, “How was Pappa a rolling stone? Was he a man or a stone?” And, “can we ride on the dream weaver train?” because it sounded like fun. I didn’t relate well to metaphors, and I still don’t. (Similes however, are a different story.) I started writing songs and playing piano as a very young girl. What spilled out of my mouth then, and now, with no surprise are literal statements that mirrored my life. (hmm, was that a metaphor?) I mean what I say, and I say a lot in my songs, which is not always easy to share. Music is like air to me, it allows to live, feel, move and express myself honestly and completely. I’m Monique Berry, singer, songwriter, musician. I hope you enjoy my music…literally!
