British-American sister duo, The Sonflowerz, began in 1999 when Elissa Leander began writing original worship songs at the age of 14. Encouraged by her youth pastor to form a band with her sister, Becca, they began performing at various venues across Colorado. The act’s first album, You Remain, and single, Crazy Love, were released in 2002. Their sophomore effort, Alive in You, was released a few years later.
While attending the 33rd GMA Music in the Rockies, Elissa and Becca won first place in two categories of the competition in Estes Park, Colorado. Soon after, they began writing songs for their 3rd album, produced by Don Koch, titled “All Over The World". The title track was inspired by the duo's experiences in England and Wales, doing ministry tours.
Radio stations across the US and Europe embraced the follow-up singles, “My Adoration” and “Edge Of My Seat”, co-written with Koch, a 6-time Dove Award winning songwriter. “When I first met The Sonflowerz, I was taken back by how transparent their hearts are,” Koch said. “I could easily see Christ in them. Their passion for family, for ministry, and their love for singing came shining through.” The songs were aired on over 600 radio stations.
The Sonflowerz have shared the stage with artists such as Third Day, Needtobreathe, Sanctus Real and Sara Groves. Good friends of Elissa and Becca, Alyssa Barlow says, “These girls are the real deal. They are talented musicians and true artists, but what really sets them apart is their passion for God. We are excited to watch them make an impact on the world."
The album was picked up by Provident Distribution in the U.S. and internationally with Integrity Europe Distribution. “Edge Of My Seat” won the grand prize award from OurStage.com by receiving the highest number of votes for any song in all 56 genres.
“From the beginning of ‘All Over The World,’ the sisters sing of a passion for delivering God’s word to the nations. But true significance comes when they slow down for songs like ‘My Adoration,’ which humbly celebrates the completion we find in Christ, and ‘Legacy,’ a song dedicated to a friend who sacrificed everything and died as a missionary in Nepal. In their honest reflections, the Sonflowerz transcend simple thanks, demonstrating a yearning for God in every form.” says Bethany Duval in a review at CBN.com.
In November 2008, The Sonflowerz title track was featured as the theme song of the new ABC Family TV Series, “One Good Turn With Joey T.” The Series was launched by Conrad Ricketts, the Co-Creator and Executive Producer of the Emmy Award winning television series: Extreme Makeover Home Edition, along with Rick Bieber Producer/Director and the former President of HBO.
“During our travels in the U.S. and U.K., we’ve come in contact with a lot of young people who are hurting,” Becca of The Sonflowerz says. “More than ever, people are searching to fill a void in their hearts that can only be filled by God. We want our songs to point the way to Christ.”
Elissa and Becca released "Beautiful Miracle: Christmas EP" in 2009, and now The Sonflowerz are currently recording their 4th full-length album, set to release in 2011.
