Portrait of Gillian Grassie
Gillian Grassie is Philadelphia-based harpist/singer-songwriter who plays original jazz-minded indie pop. Her music is both sophisticated and accessible, showcasing what Origivation Magazine describes as "a knack for turning seemingly insignificant events into songs worthy of everyone's attention [that are] sure to haunt you like a reassuring and melodious ghost."

She independently released her debut album, Serpentine, while she was still a student at Bryn Mawr College and her lyrics are often inspired by works she encountered as a Comparative Literature major there, including Philip Larkin, Hemmingway, Kleist, and traditional folklore. Her song "Silken String" finished second in the 2008 New York Songwriters Circle competition, and she has been featured by AAA radio powerhouse 88.5 WXPN. Currently, Gillian is traveling the world with her harp on a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, performing, collaborating, and investigating how social media technologies are affecting independent musicians around the globe.
