Portrait of Breeze/Fifth Element
The name Breeze is fast becoming known worldwide. A former member of Philadelphia’s and Atlanta’s National Slam Teams, Wayne Thomas Montague Watson II, a.k.a. Breeze, first stepped into the spoken word arena in 1995. This French born, Bronx raised, verbologist, has ripped open mics and poetry venues from New York to Oakland, from Chicago to Atlanta, and everywhere in between. Long on talent, and never coming up short, Breeze has boldly gone where no other poet has gone before. His treks have left a blazing trail for the stars that follow. He has had two books of prose published, “Something Wicked This Way Blows” and “Return of the Storm Season”. His much anticipated third book, “Spitting Fire and Brimstone to Keep the Hounds of Hell at Bay” is already drawing rave reviews. He also appears in several anthologies, including the upcoming "Poetry of Emcees" edited by jessica Care moore and “Street Smarts” by Def Poetry Founder, Bruce George. His electrifying, mind numbing, performances have become legendary in poetry circles. Breeze’s ability to cast verbal spells with his powerful usage of wordplay has led to an increasingly growing number of followers as well as capturing the respect of his peers. His wizardry at linguistic gymnastics has caught the ear of not only the underground, but has risen to “sea-level” and grabbed the attention of the commercial world as well. This growing “poet-tree”, has been referred to as “the level to which other writers aspire” yet he still remains firmly rooted to the ground.

Not only has Breeze been writing poetry for 18 years, he also is a registered songwriter with the international BMI as well as ASCAP. Breeze organized the Millennium Funk Tour that traveled to Osaka and Tokyo, Japan which featured Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Grady “Shady” Thomas, Clarence “Fuzzy” Haskins and Raymond “Stingray” Davis of Original PFunk, ZAPP and the Fifth Element (founded by Breeze.) He will be feature writing on PFunk’s next project. Breeze has recently penned songs for such artists as Kirk Franklin, Ciara, Speech, lead singer and founder of Arrested Development, Jaheim, Terence Trent D’Arby and India.Arie. Breeze has performed at the Green-peace Event in London featuring Terry Callier and Indigo as well as the world famous Pop Komm festival in Cologne, Germany, The Crossing Borders Festival in Amsterdam, and Medum in South France Breeze has been a frequent guest performer at the National Black Arts Festival, as well as the annual Essence Festival. He has shared the stage with such performers as, KRS-One, Julie Dexter, Jon B, Vivian Green, Bluey, Common, Mos Def, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Bilal, Mike Phillips, El Debarge, The Last Poets, Musiq, Stanley Clark, T. Naija, jessica Care moore, Saul Williams, INXS, Simple Minds, as well as many others. Additionally, this sought after writer/ performer has collaborated with the popular European band Zohar and the internationally renowned Reggae superstar, Tony Rebel. This loquacious writer has additionally been a guest and/or performer on several radio stations around the country including V-103, Hot 97.5, 98.7 Kiss FM, Power 99, Kiss 104.1, 89.3, Choice FM London and Choice FM Lagos, Nigeria. You may have also caught Breeze in action on the syndicated television show “Perspectives in Poetry”, or BET’s 106 & Park. Or you may have seen this smooth “Quiet Storm” performing as he blew across the Caribbean during the summer of ‘97. He has also performed at many music festivals around the world, as well as touring Europe, Australia, and Africa. Recently he has performed with the HBO special, Def Poetry Jam as well as the new Robert Townsend MBC show, “Spoken”. He was the Executive Producer for the 2006 Gospel Choice Awards and acted as an assistant producer for the 2007 season of “Spoken”. Additionally, Breeze was nominated and recognized as The British Arts Council and Farrago Zoo’s 2006 “International Performer of the Year”. Reaching out across seas and lineage, Breeze with the help of TV One's, Cathy Hughes, brokered the deal allowing the network to be shown thru 19 countries throughout West Africa. He is currently working on music projects with R&B group, 112, Gladys Knight, Tony Terry, Ciara, Keisha Coles, as well as his own musical group, Kartel Klique.

Through Breeze’s Fraternal and Masonic ties, he has participated in a myriad of charitable and socially conscious events throughout the nation. His relationships with the NAACP, 100 Black Men of Atlanta and Operation PUSH have allowed him to reach out across the globe. He has also been a valuable cog in several mentoring programs for disadvantaged and underprivileged youth. He has been quoted as saying, “… the future will never move past us if we don’t take our present to affect it.”

Breeze holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University, and a Masters Degree in Physics from Georgia Tech. He is also a former Naval Nuclear Propulsion officer. In February of 2000 he helped found the company Smooth as Kappacino Inc. (SAK). SAK provides management and development services for up and coming, as well as established spoken word artists, writers, and vocalists. 18 years ago, Breeze asked the world to “lend him their ears”, and so far they’ve been standing up and listening. You can look forward to his upcoming CD “The Writing Is On the Wall” featuring TTD as well as Wyclef Jean.
