Portrait of Island In The Sky
A four piece band born and based in South Wales “Island in the Sky” are an articulate group whose predominantly metal based music has been written and recorded professionally in a stand out 4 track Ep that dovetails its place in the current mainstream of the modern heavy metal scene. There are screaming vocals and distorted guitar chugs aplenty, but what is setting the island in the sky Ep apart from their contemporaries is a mature dedication to the song and not simply to the genre.
The band draw influence from hard-hitting groups such as Dillinger escape plan and Refused in that they are certainly uprooted when it comes to song structure. The music darts around bursting into discordant disjointed riffs and rushes of lurid lead guitar but all blending cohesively with moments of harmonious chorus that borrow the feel of pioneering groups such as Far and Deftones.
Despite the striking aggression associated with music based around the distortion and blasting double bass drum groves which are abundant in the bands’ 4 tracks, each song travels in a way that befits all professional popular music. The cool chugging rythms are addictive and the sense of drama in the music is satisfying.
An Ep bursting at the seams will hopefully spill into more material from a sharp group.
