Of Legend is a metal band from Athens, Georgia that plays a blend of post-metal and progressive sludge. Their sound has been described as everything ranging from crushing tides of sound, sludge-fueled glory, grand melodic build ups, and melancholic post-rock.
Of Legend formed in the spring of 2005 in Atlanta but after playing their first show in Athens that summer, they fell in love with the Classic City and soon adopted Athens as their new hometown. The original incarnation of the band played a no frills brand of traditional hardcore, akin to such old school heavyweights as Madball, Blood For Blood, Sick of it All, and The Cro-Mags.
Of Legend has shared the stage with New York hardcore pioneers Agnostic Front, as well as Full Blown Chaos, War of Ages, Integrity, Across Five Aprils, Remembering Never, Becoming the Archetype, Three Inches of Blood, Zoroaster, and A Storm of Light.
In 2008, with line-up changes rearing their ugly heads and tired of playing out the same old drill, the band began looking for a drastic change in direction. The founding members had ceased to be inspired with the constant grind of dying hardcore scenes and within a year the band had restructured its method of writing and shed it’s old skin.
A compositional attitude was adopted with the intent of focusing on an emotionally engaging and organic sound while maintaining a powerful and driving presence. Of Legend has replaced their angry two minute bursts of hardcore rage with sprawling eight minute soundscapes of crushing atmospheric metal.
In addition to headlining shows at home in Athens and attempting to revive a weary heavy music scene, the band hopes to play throughout the southeast and inspire new perspectives among heavy music fans.
