Big Paper Airplanes

Biography

Clean creases of paper meet, folding together to create a simple paper airplane. With the right care and construction, this fragile aircraft will take flight. Clean creases of paper meet, folding together to create a simple paper airplane. With the right care and construction, this fragile aircraft will take flight. Without proper attention to the assembly, a destructive crash may follow, further accentuated by the steps of passers by, crushing all its potential. This same careful construction has been applied to Washington D.C. based alternative rock band “Big Paper Airplanes.” With a warm and engaging sound, BPA released their first EP “Under Blue Skies” in January 2011 with Ian Kaine MacGregor on vocals and guitar, Bryan Kimes on bass, and Brian Fasani on drums. Since the release of their EP, the dynamics of the band changed with the addition of Laurence McKenna as lead vocalist -- a Brit who has created a welcomed alteration to the sound of BPA. With a more melodic and musical approach and a notable difference in their sound overall, BPA’s sophomore release will be on October 23 with their self-titled LP, “Big Paper Airplanes.”Drawing influence from U2, 30 Seconds to Mars, The Smiths and Coldplay, the band combines lyrics and music rooted in personal experience. With a mixture of reality, relationships, love and loss, BPA projects a truthful sound to their music with passion masked behind each individual word of their lyrics. The music of Big Paper Airplanes is not meant to be a background track or white noise to life—it is bigger than that. Through their careful construction of lyrics, melody, tone, and perspective, BPA has created the archetype of a paper airplane bound for a successful flight. Any interruptions to this will only be integrated into their work, further adding to the inspiration and influences on their music.
