3rd Degree- M.O.B Group Bio: 3rd Degree M.O.B is one of the burgeoning young rap groups blazing the North Carolina Triad's underground hip-hop scene. Based in Winston-Salem,NC the group is ready to put the music industry on notice. Already a staple in the hometown and surrounding area, 3rd degree(Michael Lyles a.k.a 'Picasso, formerly 'Hollywood'; Demarcus Andrews a.k.a 'Luigi'; and Dominique Shell a.k.a 'Tiney Shellz) has aspirations of making a name in an industry driven by the pursuit of MONEY$$$ POWER$$$ and RESPECT$$$ Michael Lyles (aka Picasso) and Demarcus Andrews (aka Luigi) met at Northwest Middle School during a computer class where they noticed each other typing raps… freestyling during lunch and between classes. This motivated them to start their own group called the “Night Rydaz” in 1999 while in the 7th grade. Using the Sneakyville studio with manager Lank who brought the groups single “Don’t Mess Wit Me” to Zeke the groups current manager. After joining forces with Zedrick Young aka Zeke they decide to pick up Mike’s cousin Dominique Shell (aka Tiney Shellz) after he spit a verse for them. Tiney Shellz later came up with the name 3rd Degree and the group was formed in January 2001. Zeke received the groups first beat produced (and engineered) by Chris Stowe (aka Natstar) which became the first single ‘” Winston’s Finest” in March 2001. 3rd Degree received tracks from a range of local producers: Carl Major (of Major Beats), Chris Stowe (of Natrax Music), and Zeke Young (of Come Up Young Ent.)The group recorded at Natrax studio in Winston-Salem, where they put together their first album 3rd Degree Burns which officially dropped in February 2002. 3rd Degree Burns sold about 1500 copies locally and landed the group two appearances on the Busta Brown show (WB Channel 3); a live interview on the “Busta Brown Morning Show” on 102Jamz with radio host Amos Quick, Africa, and Busta Brown. They also were granted a television interview on Winston-Salem’s public access network, Cat-TV. 3rd Degree Burns set them up for their first local performance at The Formula, a Winston-Salem night club in November 2003 where they shot the video for “Winston’s Finest” directed by Charles McClennahan (credits include music videos for E.U.’s “Doin’ Da’ Butt” and Gangstarr; art director of Spike Lee’s Mo’ Better Blues and The David Letterman Show). This show set them up for a series of performances in early 2004, including; two appearances at Jackson and Jackson Productions’ “The Apollo” where they received third place at both contest. The group has also been the opening act for Craig Mack’s international rap off tour at Club Fluid in Greensboro NC. They also opened up for the Ying Yang Twinz at the formula as well. After the release of Tiney Shellz 3rd Degree still kept their name and hit the studio to put more music together. Michael Lyles (aka Picasso) and Demarcus Andrews (aka Luigi) worked on their next song and video “Learning the Game” which was scheduled to be the first single off the sophomore album but was never released. Recording at Chris Stowe and TP’s new studio Sounds like A Hit productions all of 2004, 3rd Degree released 3rd Degree Burns volume II a 12 track2-disc CD in May of 2005 just in time for the summer. They also hit the stage again doing live shows in Greensboro NC. They opened up for the R&B group B5 and Lloyd at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem NC. They were also interviewed by the Music Lounge In Raleigh, NC. With many shows ahead of the group unfortunately their ages prevented them from doing several of those shows because they were 21 and up establishment. Since their early days, 3rd Degree-MOB has also been featured on several mix tapes by DJ Reflection including the exclusive The South Is So Dirty, M.O.B addition. In 2006 3rdDegree-MOB dropped the Young-N-Restless Vol.1 which sold over 5,000 copies. In addition to the Young-N-Restless mix tape, in January of 2007 they dropped the First in Flight Album which sold over 7,000 copies and still selling. Thus far in 2008, the group has been in the studio gearing up for their next mix tape entitled The Untouchables Vol.1. They have also managed to capture the air waves in rotation on 102 jamz with the new single “Like a Million as well as their newest single “Do Da Freak” both singles are registered through media base which is basically a song tracing device. The label Come Up Young Ent. is now incorporated and the 3rd Degree members have formed and alliance of artist which they call the mob and has tagged that name to their group name. Come Up Young Ent. Inc. is more than just music they also do challenge nights which gives the local artist a chance to perform in front of an audience of their peers and showcase their talents.
