AC Jazz Project

Direct from Cuba, via the United States, the AC Jazz Project aka Afro Cuban Jazz Project is arguably one of the most versatile contemporary Cuban bands in Los Angeles. Composed of extracts from Maraca, NG La Banda, Cuba LA, and more. The band's outstanding repertoire and style is a fusion of jazz improvisations mixed with afro-cuban music genres (rumba, folklore, danzon, cha cha cha, mambo, son & timba). Formerly led and created by the late great Cuban percussionist Juan "Long John" Oliva, the AC Jazz Project has made major strides in the past 10 years. After Long John's passing on June 21, 2004, The newly reincarnated group has performed, engaged, interacted, and connected with audiences nationwide. Some of their accomplishments include, gaining the title of the “88.1FM KJAZZ - Latin Jazz Artist’s of the Year”, a grand TV performance on KCET at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, a memorable high profile fund raiser at MOCA with host Paula Abdul, a stellar showcase at the IAJE Conference in New York City, and an amazing performance at the world famous Playboy Jazz Festival.
