Black Knight's roots can be traced back to what is deemed the Mecca of Hip-Hop, New York. As a Long Island Native, B.K. has been an avid listener of old school acts like Leaders of the New School, Ice Cube, Redman, A Tribe Called Quest, Das Efx, Black Moon, & Gangstarr to name a few. Hip-Hop is definitely in Black Knights blood as he is cousins with up and coming underground artist Wordsmith & his brother Professa. They routinely made their own mixtapes and videos intimating popular shows like Yo MTV Raps as kids, so Black Knight always had music in his blood. A former Football Star at Hempstead High, B.K. joined Wordsmith at Morgan State University on full football scholarships, but a change of heart after Black Knights freshman year stared him in another direction. Going on 8 years now, B.K. has been a certified Surgical Technician specializing in prepping, sterilizing the OR for surgery, transporting patients to and from the OR, passing instruments to the attending surgeon, retracting, clipping, clamping the patient's tissues, drilling, pining the patient's bones, and suturing incisions. His job also puts him in a mind frame to think quickly and keep a cool head; traits that B.K. translate to his music. Like his hands, Black Knight has a lyrical dexterity that is impressive, yet still raw to a degree. In 2004, Black Knight started frequenting Wordsmith’s house & studio to sit in on his studio sessions. Little by Little B.K. started writing rhymes and Word would give him advice on how to spit verses, write hooks, and make complete songs. Like his day job, Black Knight was a quick learner and that allowed Wordsmith to put him on some of his free download material exclusive to his website and he had the only feature on Word’s debut Mix Album, 730 Presents Wordsmith “Statement & Stipulations.” Featured on the track “The Hydrolic Theory,” Black Knight delivered a precise flow that showcased the type of growth he could have as an MC. By the beginning of 2005, B.K. had to make a tough personal decision that he new would cause him to put a halt to his Hip-Hop career for a while, but he returned with a renewed love for the game 2 years later. As 2006 rolled around Black Knight returned to his home roots of New York and started getting more involved with some of the operations Wordsmith’s Nu Revolution Camp. A lot had changed since B.K. was gone, Word recruited new MC’s like Kontact & SoL & RhymeZwell along with 4 in house producers named Professa, Strada, Capish, & Street Level. The camp also had a resident web technician named DJ Andrew and the overall running of the camp was like legit independent label. Working hard to attain the skills he had harnessed back in 2004, B.K. went through more growing pains as he looked to pick up where he left off. By this time Wordsmith was heavy on the show circuit and one of Black Knights first shows was an event with the legendary Chubb Rock & Jaz-O. B.K. hit the stage to perform for the first time as a feature on a Wordsmith track called “Judged in Da Cipha.” Looking very comfortable on stage, B.K. started backing up former Nu Revo member RhymeZwell from out of Boston. This constant work motivated B.K. to become even more involved with Word’s daily operations. Between 2007 and 2008, B.K. had a completed Mix Album called “The Allure,” appeared on an EP with RhymeZwell, made a few appearances on DJ Ophax’s international mixtapes, and participated in numerous shows involving his cousin Wordsmith. Still, it wasn’t until March of 2008 that Black Knight found his true calling. On March 26th, Wordsmith started a worldwide podcast called “Revolt Radio” and he tabbed his cousin Black Knight to host the show. Born with a unique gift of comedy and a smooth speaking voice, B.K. has helped grow the podcast to over 10,000 subscribers and as of recently conducted interviews with Cymarshall Law, Talia Coles, & former Microsoft employee Shadeed of Theindieplanet.com On the side, Black Knight is an avid promoter and he continues to work on new material. Right now he has an EP in the works and he will be a constant selection for Hardcopy Beats & Heat DVD’s “Long Island The Mixtape Series.” Though Cliché’, sky is the limit for B.K. as he continues to grow as an artist and wait for an opportunity to showcase his talents on a national level.
