Bryan Anderson
This Charlotte based musician, songwriter, and producer is currently working on a gospel CD and instrumental project. Bryan describes his music as “groove” music with a progressive edge and influences from many genres. “I thought about what I like to listen to when I’m tired or stressed out, and I focused on making music that would be relaxing,” Bryan said. His music carries you away into the relaxation groove.
Bryan, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, was drawn to the music of the bands who practiced and performed in his neighborhood. The music of James Brown, Grover Washigton, Jr., Bob James, Earl Klugh, and the bass lines of James Jamerson, Larry Graham, Gary King, and countless others influenced his desire to become a bass player.
Bryan's first break in the music business was during high school in the mid-1970s as a roadie and soundman for the all female group She Devil. The group was managed by one of Bryan's high school teachers, Mr. James Hughes. Bryan recalls, "I would be picked up after school every Friday, and the band would play every club, hole in the wall, and skating rink up and down I-95. The band was hot and could out play any male group out there at the time. I always looked forward to those weekends." The bassist, Gayle, a.k.a. Moon Baby, gave Bryan his first bass lesson.
While a member of the Air Force Reserve during the 1980s, Bryan did not play much bass at all, only occasionally playing at his church. In 1992, when he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, Bryan picked up the bass again and began to pursue a serious career in music. Since then, he has produced six solo projects: Slow Your Roll, Beaufort Avenue, Spice, Playtime, Without the Words, and The Time Is Now. He co-produced two CDs with the Atlanta based rock group Drawing Lines, featuring BILLBOARD songwriter award winner Rick Crane. In addition to playing various clubs and venues, Bryan performs for national conferences and local benefits.
