About the ArtistAs a student in grade school, Cedric (pronounced cee-drick) aka CEDD had always been proclaimed, " the music man". So today, it comes to no surprise that this multi-talented musician and up-and-coming R&B singer from little old Surry, Va. would decide to embark on a music career.
At the tender age of 10 years old, Cedric was a faithful member of his church youth choir where he had sang tenor for a number of years. Soon after, at the age of 11, Cedric would be introduced to his first musical instrument, the recorder. As simple and understandably unimpressive as this may seem, this introduction would fulfill a dream of musical proportions and ultimately open the doors to his world of musical talent! With this new found passion for music, Cedric went on to become an excellent student of the alto saxophone and piano during his high school career.
In high school, Cedric held the honor of being the most outstanding student in his piano class for a total of three years; at this time he also held down a saxophone section leader position in the marching, concert, and jazz bands. Cedric was undoubtedly known throughout his community as a true talent and arguably one of the best musicians that had ever graced the halls of his alma mater.
It wouldn’t be until after high school before Cedric ever thought about developing a singing career.
As we flash forward to the present, the 21 year old V.A. native sits down with us to confess. “I frequently sang around the house and in the church choir but it was never my intention to try to sing professionally. Although, I had been told once or twice that I should think about it…,” he admits. Eventually, that compliment would give Cedric a great idea.
While in college, during January of 2008, Cedric tells us that he would eventually discover YouTube—you know… the infamous video sharing website known for producing viral videos that are exposed to an audience of millions around the world!(yeah, that one.)—and he would begin to upload covers of popular songs on the site. This formula has garnered him over 200,000 views on the site which he now deems as his “PromoTube”. It is here where CEDD has formed a small, diverse fan base. Could this prove the R&B crooner, whose smooth vocals coupled with his distinct vocal dexterity, capable of establishing international appeal? We honestly believe so.
CEDDs greatest accomplishment to date is credited to his performance at The World Famous Apollo Theater. To achieve this honor, CEDD packed up and flew to New York City to audition. It was there where CEDD beat out over 500 hopefuls to become a contestant on the famed Amateur Night at the Apollo. CEDD performed on July 29, 2009. The song he performed was Donnell Jones’, Where I Wanna Be. While speaking on his experience before the audition, CEDD says, “It was freezing cold out there; I was by myself and I was extremely anxious all the way up until 8 HOURS LATER when I had finally got to audition. My number was 171, and it was such an honor to be chosen!”
CEDD has got to be the most humble guy you could ever know!
While we were finishing up, Cedric spoke clearly on his career objective. He says, “I would like to solidify my career as a musician and performer in the entertainment industry with my talent, charisma, and my passion for music in general. I have so many goals that I aspire to reach. I’m just getting started!”
These days, CEDD is busy. He is in the process of balancing school, his personal life and songwriting for himself and other local artists in the area. In the future, he hopes to obtain a developmental deal or publishing deal. “I’m in no rush,” he says. “I plan on establishing some longevity for myself in this business and that’s what I intend on doing.” CEDD seems like he has his head on straight. Won’t somebody please oblige this guy? He’s talented! We wish him nothing but luck in the future!
…And his future is definitely in music.
