Duse Kannon born Michael Richard Pettway. On December 23, 1982. Raised in Central Los Angeles. Duse at an early age was exposed to the art he soon grew passion for. With the collections of 45's his mother had, he was in tuned to music that were classics before his time. He would be the center of family attention, due to the fact that he did a great Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley impersonation. At any birthday, Christmas or even Thanksgiving dinner, Duse was expected at some point and time to showcase his dancing and musical talents. At the age of 8 he moved to Inglewood California where he met current group member Donell "Mafh Munny" James, And Kodell "KH" Harris. Duse and "KH" were childhood friends. Both attended Beulah Payne Elementary, Hawthorne Intermediate School, and Hawthorne High School together. What began as Bags and an abundance of "yo momma jokes " soon turned into a comical rhyme to diss others that tried to play the dozens. After so much time put into rhyming Duse and Mafh actually began calling students out after school, for cyphers or actual freestyle battles. Los Angeles hadn't been known to hold free styling events or anything of the sort. And since in most cases, calling someone out in a rap, was to the same equivalence as calling someone out in a fight. This caused for people to then come with bigger crowds. In these cases, the crowds would consist of a mixture of gangs and the regular school spectators. These events would take place anywhere from the neighborhood park, to the back of a Liquor Store. it wouldn't last long though due to plenty of fights and shootouts. Since the battles weren't happening any more, it didn't detour Duse from his love of music. Duse began recording his days growing up past and present as written documents to transfer into spoken words over music. Duse felt that this was the way to do what he loved and also paint the struggle and pain he went through onto what he calls; " A Verbal Portrait ". In 1996 Duse Kannon recorded his first song with Friend and Producer Disko Boogie. After the intensity and force he brought to the microphone there wasn't a doubt that Duse had a talent that needed to be displayed. During this time Duse had a close friend, Chauncey "Mash Martyr" James, (older brother to "Mafh Munny") that was being held in a Federal Facility at the time and was expected home the following year. With the arrival of "Mash Martyr", it wasn't long before the three joined each other and formed a group called; "Tha YNG'z". The name is abbreviated for "Tha Yung Negah Gang. "Mash" felt that the name was a fit since all of the older men they knew from the neighborhood, called them "young niggas".(The group later changed the name to "Tha YN'z" due to the attention they got after group member "Mash Martyr" was convicted of attempted murder in summer 2004.) With the group formed they soon completed enough songs and started dishing out demos and meeting people that could possibly get it heard. Including the late "Guru" of Gangstar and DJ Premier in which they met at a sit down the group was having at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles in Los Angeles. Also "Killah Priest" of The Wu Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, and The Relatives. They were soon introduced to "Dee Dee", which was the younger sister of at the time, just Actor/Comedian Jamie Foxx. Jamie was just starting on the movie Ali and was one of the biggest influences on Duse. Though Jamie did not have an album out, he was working on music at the time. Duse was able to get a first hand look from one of the biggest icons in Entertainment, at how things in this profession were supposed to look and sound to be appealing to the audience. In 2002, Duse had been the victim of a gang shooting along with his younger cousin, who each were shot multiple times. It would take months of physical therapy and learning to walk again for Duse to make a successful comeback. Still he only took it as fuel to the fire, and it gave him more to write about, and more feeling and emotion in his raps. He now has a resume of Mix tapes and features, video /radio appearances shows and an upcoming album release. Duse has been hard at the task of paving the way to his future in music.
