Singer-songwriter Emma Lee McCollum releases her first full length CD, "Pieces I Have Found" Thursday, May 28. The release party, at Smiley's Schooner Saloon in Bolinas will showcase several solo pieces from the new release as well as a full set with her band "Sweetness" and a set with special guests Jonathan Sills, Rich Spindell and others.
Music is where I'm rediscovering myself," says the newcomer to musicianship. Three years ago, the writer had several songs she wanted to sing at an open mic, not a player herself she asked guitar wizard and friend, Buddy Craig, now deceased, to accompany her. Affectionately, Emma Lee explains that Craig replied, "I'm not your monkey. Go buy a guitar and learn to play." He helped her buy her first guitar and that was that.
What I write about most are things I need to tell myself. The human experience is common enough-other people resonate with the messages," explains Emma, a self-described writer of love songs, "When I am telling myself things I don't really want to hear, I try to tell it kind.
