"EQUINOX" (equinox - astronomical event when the sun is directly above the equator) was created in the autumn of 2007 when a drummer Zeljko Stanisavljevic responded to an add by a guitarist Sava Jovic, concerning the foundation of a serious band. The band was intended to be in the realm of progressive rock/metal genre, mostly influenced by bands such as "Pain of Salvation" and "Dream Theater". The search for musicians started as well as rehearsals. During the period of one year, the band was working hard and as a result, a mini EP was recorded in the winter of 2008/09. The EP contains four songs. Even though there were serious problems with stability of the line-up (a guitarist, a bassist and four keyboardists were replaced), the band is now in a stable setting and a promotional tour across Serbia has recently started out. Also, the band is still searching for an adequate keyboardist and vocals, so that they can present themselves in the best possible way.

Serbian Metal portal EP review by www.serbian-metal.org EP “Leaving Behind” (2009) REVIEW
A young, progressive rock/metal band Equinox comes from the capital of Serbia. It was formed in 2007 and among its major influences, it cites Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation.
Leaving Behind" is the first promotional disc by this band, and it consists of four well-balanced compositions, which will justify the above mentioned influences, for this is exactly the point – the atmosphere is, so to speak, inspired by everything that Daniel Gildenlow and the company have been doing successfully for years.
Production is ok, everything is recorded clearly, coherently and it will satisfy the standards which this genre sets out. Musical expression of this group is without a doubt progressive, and the two mentioned bands should not confuse you or make you think we are talking about a plagiarism. Equinox possesses quite a few of the recognizable elements, although it does not exceed (rather broad) limits that progressive rock and metal genres present.
Technical aspect of performance is not in the spotlight although it is perfectly clear that these people can play. In other words, you will not lose the feeling that you are listening to a song, rather than a race with instruments and this, I would say, is praiseworthy. Beautiful melodies, quite sufficient representation of all the instruments (guitars, keyboards, and what is really rare in domestic bands – bass guitar sounds great). All of the ingredients are there.
From their biography, we gather that they are currently looking for a keyboard player and a vocalist, which is slowing them down in their efforts to present themselves, through concerts, to a domestic audience. We wish them the best of luck in this domain.

A brilliant debut in front of the Belgrade audience…
Last night, in Zica, we had an opportunity, for the very first time, to hear Belgrade’s progressive/metal band Equinox live. Yes. I wrote the genre correctly! Sava Jovic and Aleksandar Djordjic on guitars, Zeljko Stanisavljevic on drums and Danko Radulovic on bass decided to get on the “stage” (there is none in Zica, therefore a quotation mark) and play a very technically demanding music, which made bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X, Pain of Salvation famous. For those who, before this review, had never heard of Equinox, I should mention that the band recorded a promo album “Leaving Behind”, which you can hear on their myspace page.
Getting back to the gig, an opening act was "Rdja", whose performance the author of this text did not even see. I know it is irresponsible and I apologize to the guys from the band, but I did not get there on time.
Entering Zica via long and steep stairs, pain in the legs, fascination! Believe it or not, last night Zica was full. I have not come here often, maybe 4 or 5 times and average number of visitors was 20, whether it was a gig or a party. On November 20th at the Equinox gig, there were around a hundred! Really praiseworthy! With an extraordinary set-list, guys from the band made every effort to make sure that these people enjoyed every moment of the 1 hour performance.
Like pros, they combined their own songs with covers by bands from the same genre and succeeded in keeping the audience standing up, which is where the audience should be at gigs like this. Here is a complete set list from last night: Inside (Pain Of Salvation), Table round, Overture 1928 (Dream Theater), Strange Deja-Vu (Dream Theater), Slight change in meaning of life, Orion (Metallica), Needles your way, Song for the innocent (Pain Of Salvation), Thus, These Walls (Dream Theater).
A large number of people who did not attend last night are now wondering “How did they manage to cover Dream Theater? Well, I can answer that: Very well!
All in all, Equinox showed us last night that they want and they know how! Starting any other kind of a deeper analysis after the first gig, would be a little excessive and ungrounded. The only flaw one can find is a bit weaker vocal. Sava Jovic, otherwise a guitarist of the band, is just a temporary solution. Beside a singer, the band is looking for a keyboardist as well. So, if you are a singer or a keyboard player, you may contact them through myspace.
We can only say one more time: Bravo guys, that’s how you play!
At the end, I would only add one more thing which my analytical brain could not comprehend. At Zica, Jelen Zidarac (beer) 160 dinars. Why?
