About the Artist
Each song I make happens to take a completely different tone - classic rock, acid jamminess, funk, electronic, acoustic - and the only unifying theme is the scarily naked level of emotion and honesty I attempt to intertwine in my music, something that I believe to be almost non-existent in present day society.
You also can't forget that it's all about playing MUSIC...it's NOT about what you can show people you can do with a piece of wood with strings on it; the idea is to make sounds that are good, and in music, that has everything to do with the relationships between the elements. If I'm at home, studying a guitar solo, it's not enough to learn the solo; I have to make sure that I understand the relationship between the notes in the solo and the chords or the bass line that's played behind it, along with any other instrument you might be playing with. The fact that I take this approach is apparent in my music, in my solo work, and when I'm playing with other musicians, because I'm often absorbed in what the bass and the drums are doing and thinking about trying to create a dimension in relationship to that.
I never think, "Oh great!, they're giving me a blank canvas to go crazy on". It's more about the constant interaction between your backing track, or fellow musicians.
