T.B. Jones, a Blues-Rock guitarist, singer and songwriter infuses the intense rhythms of the Mississippi Delta, Chicago, and Texas Blues with a contemporary Rock sensibility. In both electric and acoustic shows, Jones’ skilled command of his instrument and repertoire are captivating. In more demure acoustic shows, Jones conjures up the soul and haunting rhythms of the Mississippi Blues, layering smooth vocals over bold and complex guitar playing.
T.B. Jones began playing at age 14. Soon after, a family friend introduced him to Eric Clapton’s music. The “Cream of Clapton” compilation was his gateway to the Mississippi Blues artists, most notably Robert Johnson, whose music has greatly influenced T.B.’s music and lyrics.
Other influences include: Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Freddie King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix and so many others.
By the age of sixteen, T.B. was studying under the tutelage of Berklee Grad and Jazzmaster Patrick Chae at a local Music store. Three years later, T.B. Jones was teaching lessons at the same store, and he and Chae were playing in a local Blues Trio – with T.B. Jones on guitar and vocals, and Chae on bass.
At the time, T.B. Jones, a student at Montgomery County Community College, worked crew at a Blues Tribute to the Robert Johnson Centennial. Here, he met Howlin’ Wolf’s legendary guitarist (the late) Hubert Sumlin. Backstage, T.B. had the honor of jamming with Mr. Sumlin, and Cedric Burnside. Hubert Sumlin’s words of support meant a great deal: “You were meant to play the blues.”
Today (age 21), T.B. Jones is performing throughout the Philadelphia region.
