"Can you play a tune?" The first time someone asked me this I was a little perplexed. "Of course I can play a xxxxx tune." "No," he persisted, "You can strum, finger pick and do a bit of flash lead, but can you play a recognizable melody?" I stopped and thought for a moment, he was right, I could do all of the above but an actual tune? It was a veritable Damascus Road moment. Sitting there in Ivor Mairant's guitar store just off London's famous Oxford Street I saw a whole new avenue of musical exploration opening up before me. That was over twenty years ago and the result today is the "Year Album," which, for the first time in your life, an album where you know the name of each track before you've even heard it! In fact If I tell you that the first track is January and the second February you can guess not just the names of the rest but how many there are on the album. How cool is that? Played on a Tokai 335 jazz guitar we have the unique combination of jazz sound, classical structure and down to earth melodies (no jazzy flights of fancy) just good relaxing music. Beautiful melodies, beautifully played. The Year Album is now available on Amazon and Cd Baby at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/johnguitars For the sheet music paste this link to your browser. http://www.payloadz.com/go/sip?id=1269918 My latest venture is a country / folk rock album entitled, "Rolling Round the Sun." "Rolling Round the Sun," contains 12 catchy, kind of folksie, kind of country songs about love found, love to come and love unreachable. If you long for that perfect guy then perhaps he's the one in, "Never been a gambling man," or if you thought you had found him and he turned out to be a swine then, "Hell has no fury," will hit the spot. "Wind of change," is a reflection on the tough times we are going through, while the tear jerker, "Daddy, don't break my home," should make all absent father's cringe although, "Take me back again," may offer them a little hope. For those for whom marriage has actually worked, I offer, "Two minds, one heart," and to my four grandsons I give some good advice in, "I'll walk a way with you." So that is it, off with you then. You have some serious listening to do not to mention buying a few tracks to keep this hungry old musician fed. Oh did I mention Rolling Round the Sun is available on Amazon? Johnguitars
