About the Artist
Kate Curtis doesn’t just sing country…she is country. Born and raised in Stafford, Virginia, the very heart of Country, Southern Gospel, Southern Rock and Bluegrass music, Kate was influenced by her mom and dad’s love for this music at a very early age. With their local Christian church serving as the center of the family’s musical life, Kate was immersed in the joy of good old Southern Gospel music. She began singing solo in church at age 5 and continued as a member of the church choir through her teens. Kate fondly recalls listening to The Sonrise Quartet and falling in love with their beautiful 3 part harmony. She credits The Sonrise Quartet as her very first musical influence; an influence that continues to this day and can be heard in her beautiful vocals. Before moving to Nashville, Kate played and sang with a Bluegrass Band, the Rappahannock Ramblers, in and around the Fredericksburg, Virginia area. Determined to live her dream of becoming a country star, Kate set out for Nashville, which she now proudly calls home.
With a style all her own, Kate credits the influence of such country greats as Alison Krauss, Emmy Lou Harris and Faith Hill; along with a healthy sprinkling of rock’s Bonnie Raitt, Neil Young and the Beatles, as the inspiration for her unique sound. A gifted vocalist, Kate is accomplished as well on guitar, mandolin and harmonica. Her captivating vocals are deeply rooted in traditional country and Americana and are sure to capture the listener.
With her trademark wide smile, gleam in her eyes, warm and friendly manner, Kate captivates and entertains audiences wherever and whenever she performs. People can’t get enough of her and she is happy to accommodate their requests for more of her songs. While Kate can masterfully perform a wide range of “covers,” she is at her very best and absolutely shines when performing her own songs.
Recently Kate completed recording of the first two songs of an upcoming album at TMC Recording Studios in Hendersonville, TN. Produced by Gene Higgins and backed up by some of Nashville’s finest session players, these recordings are a small sampling of her great music yet to be recorded. One song, “Heaven Knows,” was written by her friend and sometimes co-writer, Tom Henniner, BMI. Kate’s performance of this loving and sensitive ballad about a woman dealing with her Mom’s loss of memory is both moving and inspiring. It is sure to resonate with the many millions of Americans who suffer the pain and loss of a loved one with Alzheimer’s. The second song, “Nashville Singing Blues” is an autobiographical rendition of Kate’s arrival in Nashville. It is fun, upbeat and a great description of life as a member of Nashville’s music community. These songs, already well received by her long-time fans, have brought her a whole new host of fans.
Kate just completed a new song ”I’ve Got My Dreams” which is sure to become an anthem of inspiration and hope for today’s women who are out there persevering and still seeking their dream.
