Kingnaldo, Armed With Spoken Word And Psychedelic by
He’s an artist with a musical armor, one with which he hopes to change the world. It’s an ambitious goal, but nonetheless it’s one that Puerto Rican rocker Kingnaldo has pursued diligently and one that he continues to feed with his trajectory of spoken word meets grunge/psychedelic. His Organic Antidote (2009) debut album revealed an artist hungry to shake his audience, and that hunger only grew deeper as proved in his most recent release Combustion (2010) where Kingnaldo takes another jab at “waking people from the sleep they live in”. With that sentiment in mind and days before his participation in the Latin Music Invasion, which is a series of traveling concerts that showcases Latin musicianship throughout southern California and Mexico, Kingnaldo talks to us a tad about who he is as an artist and about his message which he makes so hard so ignore. I use my music as a weapon to influence and to make people realize what we are. It’s my way of expressing what bothers me about our society. Music doesn’t just need to move your body, it needs to move your soul as well and I want people to listen to my music and know that there is still essence in music. I want them to not forget that genuine music still exists. Kingnaldo, entrevista de musica rockI feel people don’t act on reality, so I write about that. I don’t want to write about what you want to hear, but rather what you need to know even if it’s harsh. The way I see it, it’s all right to be angry so long as you use that anger in the right way and I choose to express mine through music. I sing in English and Spanish with both languages carrying the message of two existing worlds that are in need of an awakening. These two worlds need to open their eyes and mind, and realize that the modern form of expression is poetry and love. There’s a desperate need for revolution as well but that doesn’t necessarily mean a literal revolution. We simply need to be more in tune on a spiritual level. And with Combustion I tried to do that. I wanted to present something more extreme, more energized than Organic Antidote. So I took the production process into another dimension both lyrically and musically, but without creating a disconnection between it and the previous album. It’s an intense production of five songs, three of which are in English and the other two in Spanish. I welcome people to listen to the album. I think a person that digs it will more than likely also enjoy grunge from Stone Temple Pilots, nu-metal from Deftones, and psychedelic from The Doors. I have those three in my iPod right now along with A Perfect Circle, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Incubus, Muse, Johnny Cash, Miles Davis, Korn, Bob Marley, Radio Head, Rage Against The Machine, System of a Down, The Cure, Sound Garden and many others. So if people like that type pf music I think they'll enjoy Combustion as well. Witness Kingnaldo in action this upcoming Saturday, March 5th as he performs at the 2011 Latin Music Invasion kick-off party at Bordello’s alongside other Latin Alternative bands from Northern Cali, Guatemala, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Puerto Rico and L.A.
