Misty Lee Olsen is a singer/songwriter from Barrie, Ontario who is attracting attention from both sides of the border. Her unique, delightful clear, country voice is her true instrument, and her distinct talents often seem second to her luminously warm and friendly personality.
In addition Misty has a great natural talent as a lyricist and melody writer. After performing various family functions and local small venues, Misty decided to make her dream a reality, and pursued a career in country music full time. After making the 2004 regional finals of the famed “Nashville Star” TV talent search, Misty began writing and performing as often as she could, and was approached in 2007 by three time Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) winning producer of the year, Joel Feeney (‘Nothing Bout Love Makes Sense’ Leann Rimes) to produce her debut CD.
Shortly there after, Canadian-based Royalty Records, Inc. signed Misty to an album marketing and distribution deal for the debut CD. In late 2007, Misty was invited to perform at the 2007 CCMA Country Music Week—New Artist Showcase, a critical endorsement by an industry panel of insiders that solidifies Misty as ‘one-to-watch’ in the country music industry. Previous showcase performers include Shania Twain, George Canyon and recently acclaimed group, The Higgins.
In late 2008, Misty was awarded a coveted music grant from the Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR) for her upcoming project. Shortly after this honour, Misty announced she secured a publishing agreement with Nashville publishing house, Songscape Music, LLC. Managed by Nashville industry veteran, Robyn Taylor-Drake, Misty joined the Lucky Hennessy/ASCAP writing team and has been working with some of music’s top writing talents. She recently received her first song ‘cut’ under the label—a huge coup for a budding writer in the ultra-competitive Nashville scene.
In July 2008, Misty's song, "Stay Away" was featured in the Hallmark Channel, made-for-TV movie "Every Second Counts", airing to up to 85 million households in the U.S., which garnered her advance buzz south of the border.
Misty recently made the move to the ‘Nashville North’ of Canada—Edmonton, Alberta. In the few short months in Alberta, Misty has shared the stage with CCMA award winning artist, Gord Bamford, Craig Moritz and Jason Greeley. And as a new Alberta-gal, she was added to the talented performance roster to help launch the Association of Country Music in Alberta (ACMA).
In September 2008, her debut single, ‘A Little Bit of Love’, was released to Canadian radio. Misty says, ‘It’s a dream come true knowing my song is playing to Canadians from coast-to-coast.”
Misty is wrapping up 2008 with several high-profile corporate and media performances, and will begin vigorously touring in western Canada as build up to her debut album release in early 2009. ‘The Story of a Girl’ is one of the most anticipated albums to come from a female singer/songwriter in years, and Misty is looking forward to living her dream of being Canada’s biggest sensation.
