About the Artist
DC’s own pop vocalist Odelia is a singer songwriter with songs based on a meek and gentle approach. Her soulful, melodic, and angelic sound gives this native Washingtonian the keys that are opening doors to a vibrant singing career. Odelia, a born Jamerican, infuses pop, rhythm and blues, with a dash of patois to create a unique, alternative, universal sound.
Odelia, born in Washington DC grew up in the Metropolitan area. Growing up she was exposed to singing by her father, a Pentecostal minister. One of eleven accomplished siblings, Odelia is truly one of a kind in her own right. The product of a controversial upbringing she uses her life, success, and failures as an atlas to create beautiful, meaningful, and emotional lyrics that touch the hearts of many around the world.
Odelia started singing around the house as a little girl. Her family cited her as a “little bird” who would wake up and go to sleep singing. A pivotal moment came for Odelia when she was 10. “I memorized Bob Marley’s redemption song and created a different melody to it. My dad told me it was “wordly” music and shunned my craving for that type of music.” Despite his efforts Odelia continued to quench her infatuation by studying artists like Sly & Robbie, Jimmy Cliff, Anita Baker, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Bon Jovi, Run DMC and anyone that she could secretly get her hands on.”
Odelia’s passion has since transpired and she continues to have a true love and appreciation for all music. Although modest, this Howard University graduate is no stranger to the entertainment industry. In 2001 she was cast as an extra in Minority Report starring Tom Cruise. Since then Odelia's career continues to flourish. She qualified for top shows such as Popstars, American Idol and America's Top Model. Her face has twice graced Kodak's Time Square Gallery as the Picture of the Day. She’s opened shows for artists such as Dwele, and the like. Today Odelia writes songs and hooks for various artists in the music industry. Her humble spirit and bubbly countenance, continues to win the hearts of those she encounters. She is currently working on her solo-album due to be released in the future.
